Cover Snark (87): The One with an Evil My Little Demon

Welcome to Cover Snark, where the people are snarky and the covers quiver in fear. Since I don’t write many snarky book reviews here on A Reader of Fictions, Cover Snark is my outlet. If you click on the title of the book, where possible, I’ve linked to Goodreads. Clicking on the cover itself will show you the cover in a larger size, in most cases. Feel free to love covers I hate and vice versa. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Shiny and New:

1. The Garden of Darkness – Gillian Murray Kendall
The Garden of Darkness - Gillian Murray Kendall
Thoughts: Any time there is an animal (a non-human one anyway) on a dystopian or post-apocalyoptic cover, I basically start sobbing uncontrollably in preparation.

2. Angels in the Dark – Lauren Kate
Angels in the Dark – Lauren Kate
Thoughts: Looks more like some mist and a railing, but maybe angels look like trees. Who said they had to look like people? Maybe we just made that shit up out of human vanity. Treengels.

3. Bad Blood (Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter #3) – Nikki Jefford
Bad Blood (Aurora Sky Vampire Hunter #3) - Nikki Jefford
Thoughts: I would really like to see this from the front, because I can’t decide on this outfit with just this view. However, I love the background and the colors and her surprisingly gorgeous bun.

4. For Real – Alison Cherry
For Real - Alison Cherry
Thoughts: Okay, so at first I thought the shirt of girl on the right said “LOVE IS ABOUT THOR” which might be less accurate than LOVE IS ABOUT TRUST, but meh. Then girl on the right is all about loving boobs unto infinity. So that’s cool. That car is SERIOUSLY boss as are their sunglasses. Though, I would prefer it if the stripey pattern was on the car and not just randomly across the bottom of the cover.

5. The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy #3) – Deborah Harkness
The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy #3) - Deborah Harkness
Thoughts: Alright, I’m going to need you to compare this to the other two covers. This bothers me for the following reasons: 1) The first two are both blue-based, but now green. 2) WHY IS THE TITLE FONT SO HUGE? 3) Harkness’ name has been moved to the top of the book, unlike the previous covers. THESE ARE A SET, SO THEY SHOULD LOOK LIKE A SET. It looks like a redesign, but it’s not, and that is dumb.

6. Dark Metropolis (Dark Metropolis #1) – Jaclyn Dolamore
Dark Metropolis - Jaclyn Dolamore
Thoughts: Ooooh, that looks like the sort of headband an elf princess would wear, though I’m fairly certain I should have gone to 1920s first. Don’t mind me. What you SHOULD mind is the creepiness of that shadow hand. I love the font treatment bunches, even if the stem of the K looks a lot like a stripper pole that she’s about to dance all up ons.

7. Let’s Get Lost – Adi Alsaid
Let's Get Lost - Adi Alsaid
Thoughts: Funny story. First time I read this, I thought it was called “Let’s Get Lost, I Said,” because of my brain adding the name into the title. I really want the use of pink versus red for letters to mean something, but it doesn’t seem to. Help, I’m lost, guys!

8. When Love Calls – Anja Pruitt
When Love Calls - Anja Pruitt
Thoughts: She’s a maneater. They are easily identified by the shoulder revealing grey shirts.

9. His Hometown Girl – Karen Rock
His Hometown Girl - Karen Rock
Thoughts: This scene is berry romantic.

10. The Cellar – Natasha Preston
The Cellar - Natasha Preston
Thoughts: This house has carpeted stairs into the cellar? How fancy. And a poorly photoshopped flower on them too! How plush.

11. Princess of Thorns – Stacey Jay
Princess of Thorns -- Stacey Jay
Thoughts: Best tagline. And the fact that it’s this intense lady fighting. I am curious to see how Sleeping Beauty will fight what with being unconscious. *bounces*

12. Damaged – Amy Reed
Style: "Porcelain vivid"
Thoughts: His jeans are tucked into the back of his sneakers. I hate when my jeans do that. It’s so uncomfortable. Also, a real-looking guy on a book cover. What is this magic?

13. Dark Skye (Immortals After Dark #14) – Kresley Cole
Dark Skye (Immortals After Dark #14) - Kresley Cole

14. A Night Without Stars – Jillian Eaton
A Night Without Stars - Jillian Eaton
Thoughts: Maybe, terrifying girl, the stars are there but you can’t see them because your hair is in your eyes?

15. Orenda – Ruth Silver
Orenda - Ruth Silver
Thoughts: Oooh, so I’m not wowed by the font treatments, but I love the dress and the photo.

16. Blood of My Blood (Jasper Dent #3) – Barry Lyga
Blood of My Blood - Barry Lyga
Thoughts: Simple, stark, creeeeepy.

17. Glory O’Brien’s History of the Future – A.S. King
Glory O'Brien's History of the Future - A.S. King
Thoughts: Interesting haircut, and I actually like the yellow font on the black and white background.

18. The Last Changeling (Faerie Revolutions #1) – Chelsea Pitcher
The Last Changeling (Faerie Revolutions #1) - Chelsea Pitcher
Thoughts: If I don’t look too closely, this is GORGEOUS, but if I really focus on the dude with shiny wings, I collapse in laughter.

19. Extraction (Extraction #1) – Stephanie Diaz
Extraction (Extraction #1) - Stephanie Diaz
Thoughts: EYEXTRACTION. Ouch.

20. Everything Leads to You – Nina LaCour
Everything Leads to You - Nina LaCour
Thoughts: Everything Leads to Beige, but somehow it works.

21. Hot Lead, Cold Iron – Ari Marmell
Hot Lead, Cold Iron - Ari Marmell
Thoughts: Other than the shadowy figure which looks like a different art style to me, this is pretty cool in a noir kind of way.

22. Thunderstruck (Weather Witch #3) – Shannon Delaney
Thunderstruck - Shannon Delaney

23. Amity – Micol Ostow
Amity - Micol Ostow
Thoughts: The juxtaposition of bleeding house plus the title is fantastic.

24. Please Don’t Tell My Parents I’m a Super Villain – Richard Roberts
Please Don't Tell My Parents I'm a Super Villain - Richard Roberts
Thoughts: Title for the win and the goggles and creepy doll are awesome too. Fonts = faillllll, though.

25. The Kiss of Deception (Remnant Trilogy #1) – Mary Pearson
A Kiss of Deception - Mary Pearson
Thoughts: That guy in the background has been using his Thoreal.

26. True Colors – Melissa Pearl
True Colors - Melissa Pearl
Thoughts: I do love a pretty mask.

27. Dark Paradise – Angie Sandro
Dark Paradise - Angie Sandro
Thoughts: Pretty but rather deja vu inducing.

28. Pack of Strays (Fangborn #2) – Dana Cameron
Pack of Strays (Fangborn #2) - Dana Cameron
Thoughts: What is happening? THIS COVER IS NOT HIGH RES ENOUGH FOR ME TO KNOW WHAT IS IN HER HAND? All I know is it pissed him off and she’s like awed but also insulted?

29. The Paris Connection – Cerella Sechrist
The Paris Connection - Cerella Sechrist
Thoughts: I have been to Europe and no hot guys fell in love with me. Life is truly unfair. I would like to be fictional. Thank you.

30. The Insider (Kingdom Keepers #7) – Ridley Pearson

Cover Battles:

1. The Rules (Project Paper Doll #1) – Stacey Kade

The Rules
The Rules - Stacey Kade

US Hardback vs. US Paperback: I actually really hated the hardback, so, though, this isn’t perfect for me, it’s an improvement. Also, the new style reminds me of a scene from Cress, so there’s that.

2. Crazy Rich Asians – Kevin Kwan

Crazy Rich Asians
Crazy Rich Asians - Kevin Kwan

US Hardcover vs. US Paperback: Duuuude, good redesign. The hardcover is so “reality tv” which may be the right feeling for the book, I don’t know, but I would so not pick it up.

3. The Secret Diamond Sisters (The Secret Diamond Sisters #1) – Michelle Madow

The Secret Diamond Sisters - Michelle Madow
The Secret Diamond Sisters - Michelle Madow

US vs. Australian: I’m not generally a big fan of white covers, but the Australian wins for me by a landslide, because it makes more sense and is more unique.

4. September Girls – Bennett Madison

September Girls
September Girls - Bennett Madison

US Hardback vs. US Paperback: They had a brilliant chance to not market this to readers of magical realism romances and they ran right over that chance.

5. Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin #2) – Robin LaFevers

Dark Triumph
Dark Triumph - Robin LaFevers

US Hardback vs. US Paperback: On the plus side, it’s not a redesign. On the downside, WHAT EVEN IS THAT? It is like someone took a nice photo of a girl and then used MS Paint to give her hair. NO. That is literally the only issue I had with the previous cover AND THEY HAVE INCREASED THE EFFECT. WHYYYY CAN’T WE HAVE NICE THINGS?

6. Watchers in the Night (The Guardians of the Night #1) – Jenna Black

Watchers in the Night
Watchers in the Night - Jenna Black

Original vs. Redesign: Hmmm, standard paranormal romance look or Twilight look?

7. Secrets in the Shadows (The Guardians of the Night #2) – Jenna Black

Secrets in the Shadows
Zinnia flower on a black background

Original vs. Redesign: Well, the new covers are definitely better done, but I can’t say I love either.

8. Shadows on the Soul (The Guardians of the Night #3) – Jenna Black

Shadows on the Soul

9. The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy #3) – Deborah Harkness

10. The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds #1) – Alexandra Bracken

The Darkest Minds - Alexandra Bracken
The Darkest Minds

US Hardback vs. Cover Bracken Posted: Okay, guys, breathe. I’m not sure what this cover is, but Bracken posted it on her tumblr and said there wouldn’t be a redesign of book three. Maybe it sold enough to be repackaging once it finishes or maybe it’s pretty fan art. Either way, look at it. Much more of an adult fic look.

WTF of the Week:

WTF of the Week began as a special category for one cover I saw, but was so popular it became a recurring feature. Here, I highlight covers, both new and old, that I’ve found, which, upon viewing, made me either snort or say something along the lines of “Dear God, what is that thing?” If you would like to be part of the fun and have spotted a truly hilarious or horrifying cover, submit it and your snark to and you might be included, though I will filter through submissions and limit the number of entries per week.

1. Learning to Swim (Hearts Out of Water #1) – Annie Cosby
Learning to Swim by Annie Cosby
Thoughts: Two things: 1) The first step in learning to swim is not wearing heavy clothes and shoes. 2) The S ends in a snake head that is biting a symbol that looks like nothing so much as a penis. ONE PENIS METAPHOR IS BITING ANOTHER PENIS METAPHOR.

2. All The Pretty Poses (Pretty #2) – M. Leighton
All The Pretty Poses (Pretty #2) - M. Leighton
Thoughts: You promised pretty poses. I am still waiting for these poses.

3. City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments #6) – Cassandra Clare
City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments #6) - Cassandra Clare
Thoughts: BAHAHA, THESE JUST GET WORSE. The dude is PURPLE with WHITE HAIR. It’s like a My Little Pony was made human, only not awesome. Or demon. My Little Demon. And the effects. You know, these covers are sort of like Lisa Frank seen through a hellish filter.

Outstanding Cover of the Week:

Everything Leads to You

The Outstanding Cover of the Week is chosen by a Cover Snark reader. They are free to pick any of the week’s covers, whether they’re to my personal tastes or not. If you’d like to choose the cover for a week, either email or tweet me. You will need to be available Wednesday evening to consult.

Everything Leads to You - Nina LaCour

Today, welcome author Rebecca Weston, who has selected Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour. Here’s why:

“It’s a tough call, but I choose EVERYTHING LEADS TO YOU by Nina LaCour. I wish it had a *little* more color, but I’m completely fascinated by how the designer is using the font and layout to pull my eyes inward every time I look at it. It works as a nice play on the title without being too hit-you-in-the-face with it.”

My Little Demon. Classic. CLASSIC. So true and so brilliant. That is a horrible cover.

No. 8 of the Redesigns. Holy shit – that original cover. I’m dying. Can’t. Stop. Laughing.

  2. Let’s Get Lost and Everything Leads to You are my favorites! So prettay.

I don’t understand the pose that is on the cover of Princess of Thorns.

Extraction could have done a lot better.

Gah, I’m disappointed in the cover of Dark Metropolis though I like the font. It just isn’t doing it for me and it’s one of the books I’m anticipating. Oh well.

Crazy Rich Asians: Now that’s a redesign!

Yes to the absence-of-a-girl on the cover redesign of The Secret Diamond Sisters.

Dark Triumph’s re-design is painful to look at. What the hair?!

Learning to Swim? More like learning to metaphor and failing.

I really don’t understand the cover redesign of The Darkest Minds…

All The Pretty Poses? Bahahaha that actually looks uncomfortable.

What is wrong with the cover of City of Heavenly Fire? It’s so bad it’s not even funny.

    1. I really like this one. It’s quite unique and way better than all those eye/face/pretty-girls-in-dresses dystopian covers. I APPROVE.

    2. Okay. First of all, WE REALLY DON’T NEED MORE STORIES FROM THE FALLEN UNIVERSE. I WANTED EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER TO DIE IN RAPTURE AND WAS SO PISSED WHEN THEY DIDN’T. Ugh, that balcony. It’s probably the one Daniel was standing on every night, stalking Luce, AGAIN, when he’d sent her to boarding school. Yes, that’s what teenage love interests do nowadays. They send you to boarding school because healthy dynamics. And then he sees her kissing another guy, which was pretty much THE ONLY CONFLICT in Torment and it was so cheap because he was obviously a decoy. Ugh ugh ugh. I can’t believe I finished this series.

    4. This looks so hipster.

    5. This looks like a placeholder instead of the actual cover.

    9. WEE PEETA

    10. Fake ass flower.

    15. Is this about Fae? It looks like it’s about Fae.

    15. HER EYES. Shiiit.

    18. Hahahaha. COME AT ME BRO. Pretty sure I can take this dude. Once he puts on pants. Or not.

    26. “The Mask Series.” No shit. Now if only they’d titled this The Mascara Series because her lashes need work.

    28. I’m thinking it’s either a crown with a very phallic midsection or a boat. Also, this cover gives me Mistborn vibes, even with that skull in the background.

    29. I like the sweetness of this cover, but how much do you want to bet that he’s an American on vaca in Europe instead of an actual European?

CB 1. I want that blue dress. Couldn’t care less about the covers.

    WTF 1. Lul.

WTF 3. I’m telling you. They were electrocuted in the midst of one battle or another and sent to the taxidermist. Also, WHY IS SHE NOT FACING HIM? NO WONDER YOU’LL BE ELECTROCUTED, CLARY, YOU TSTL RUNE-FLASHING TWIT.

  4. Excellent! Although, I do like the latest Deborah Harkness book. It is going to annoy the shiz out my friend Kim though. She is going to be pissed about the color and the author name being on the top too. I like green, so I’m good. Plus, I’ll most likely buy this beauty on audio anyway since I only have the second book in HB, the first in audio.

  5. 1. Disease, infection, pandemic, oh men, I’m all for it! And the cover isn’t bad either.
    5. I have the same goofy color change in another series. It’s very annoying when one book has another colored spine.
    6. I’m interested to see this cover in real life. This title would work awesome if they make it textured.
    7. I made my own title from this one too. I read it as: “Let’s get lost Adi, Al said.”
    11. I don’t even care about the cover, fairy tale *bounces* But I agree, that is a good tag line. Promising!
    13. HAHAHA.
    14. I wonder if the different colored A has a meaning or if they just think it looks.. fancier.
    15. I love the lightning, looks so serene.
    18. I like it, especially on Goodreads where it’s more distant.
    23. Ohhhh, nice creepy looking cover!
    25. I love her flower head band.

    Cover battle:
    1. I agree, the paperback isn’t perfect, but it’s definitely much better.
    5. Hahaha, no, why change a cover that it’s perfect into something so.. not-perfect.

Also, I’m a Cassie Clare fan, but I’m totally with you on these covers. They’re awful. I thought the first three were okay, but the last three in that series are just…bad. Of course, I don’t like those books either. So. I guess the covers reflect the content???

  7. 6. EEK I somehow didn’t notice the creepy hand/face of the shadow until you pointed it out!

    7. LOVE this cover!!

    10. Carpeted stairs down to the cellar just don’t seem as creepy.

    12. I love how her covers always have a lot of white space and a title that looks handwritten!

    17. Love how stark of a contrast this is with the black & white and pop of the yellow title this is!

    20. Ohhhhh I like this – it’s busy but simple at the same time.

    24. AWESOME title and WOAH that doll is giving me the wiggins.

  8. 1. Animal on the cover of a dystopian/post-apocalyptic is a no for me. I simply cannot handle them dying, so I will not read it.

    3. I though you said she had a surprisingly gorgeous bum. That didn’t click with wanting to see her and the dress from the front, lol. But yeah, nice bun.

    4. That girl on the left reminds me so much of the girl playing Lizzie Bennet on the Lizzie Bennet Diaries!

    5. I hate it when covers in a series don’t match. And this is even more stupid, because the reason is not due to a redesign.

    6. LOL at the stripper pole K.

    7. I LOVE this cover. I don’t think the different colors in the title mean anything, though, but I STILL LOVE IT.

    15. Yes, this cover could have been so good if they just had a better font, because the photo is pretty.

    20. Another cover I really LOVE. I love the font, the dress and the city in the background. And yeah, even the beige colors work!

CB2. Such a good redesign! The paperback is a great cover and the hardcover something I would never pick up.

CB3. I actually like neither of the covers, but I think the Australian cover is too simple/boring, I’m going to pick the US since it’s not a secret.

And the cover for City of Heavenly Fire is so HORRIBLE I’m laughing at it. I haven’t read this series and probably never will, so I have no clue if him being purple makes sense or not. BUT IT’S UGLY. These books sell so much I’m surprised the covers aren’t better.

  9. For Lauren Kate’s book, I’m just waiting for the angels to leap out of the fog and yell “SURPRISE!” Because, you know, it’s romantic to stalk people when you’re hidden in fog. Duh.

And for City of Heavenly Fire, if you look closely, it appears as though the girl is reaching for the guy’s crotch. So there’s that.

    4. I love this cover. Enough to actually try the book. Oh godddddd.

    5. I still think this is gorgeous despite your nigglings

    6. I immediately thoughts 1920s, but I’d read the shit out a 1920s elf princess. OMG I DID NOT SEE THAT SHADOW HAND ARRRGH

    7. I love this despite your lostness

    9. Those strawberries mean something probably very inappropriate.

    12. Have you been hanging out with Prince Shin? Get a haircut!

    14. This is the fucking creepiest kill it get it away from me

    18. IS HE NUDE????????????

    19. She sort of looks like she’s been flushing down a toilet.

    24. Adorable cover and title, terrible fonts.

    26. Picture’s kind of meh, but I love the title treatment.

    29. Seriously, where are you, hot European guys? (I mean obviously you’re in Europe but you know what I mean)

    30. Kill this. It is the worst thing in history, KILL IT. MAKE IT STOP.

CB1. Vast improvement. And OMG, it is like that scene in Cress!!!

CB2. OMG. Brilliant redesign. I no longer recoil in horror but laugh in delight.

CB3. Also I HATE the way the neck continues into the diamonds on the American one. Like, I guarantee her neck is not that thick.

CB4. It IS a gorgeous cover, though. And i love the new title fint. But still, couldn’t pay me to read.

    6. Crazy dangly-things distract.
    7. Kind of neat. No floating eyes or heads. Or people. Always a plus.
    8. She may be a maneater, but THAT HAIR IS AWESOME.
    10. Could that photoshop be any worse? Also, the angle makes the cellar stairs look funny. Kind of not like stairs.
    11. Woah, thorny font! And an actually kind of intense looking cover-lady, though her expression is kind of odd. And that hair is whi-iite.
    12. Your comment made me think of a blog-post I read (and kind of didn’t agree with, but was interesting and had some points)
    13. *Snort* Those glazed eyes mixed with everything in this cover. Just…. Just.
    17. Couldn’t have one cover snark where there wasn’t half a head.
    18. Can I just repeat the comment for number 13? Oh, cover designers who think bare-nay- naked guys with wings is a good idea.
    19. Ugh. Why did you say that. Now I’m squirming and imagining my eye being extracted. Ugh. Meanie.
    24. I would like those goggles please. And that doll is giving me vague Coraline flashback.
    25. I would try to snark this, but that flower wreath is too pretty for me to think of anything else.
    28. I think it’s a boat. Possibly a Viking long-boat. And the shield in the back kind of also gives off that feel. The people look out of place though.
WTF 3. Oh, Cassandra Clare. These covers are not improving. Also what is going on between her shoulders. Is it just me or does it look really weird?

    7. Oh no, let’s not. I get lost enough on my own, thankyouverymuch. Also, the synopsis sounds very MPDG.

    10. I find carpeted cellar stairs to be creepier than bare stairs. 1) Who knows what’s living in that. Ick. 2) Insulation. No one can hear you screeeeeeeeam…

    15. I see London, I see France… Also, if this isn’t a gender-bent Narcissus retelling, imma be mad.

    18. Excuse me, sir, where are your pants?

    24. Ooh! YES, this title wins. Not the cover, but the title yes.

    6. This is actually really fabulous. Except now all I can see is the stripper pole. Thanks.
WHY does the summary compare this to Clare? And it’s about ZOMBIES?!
    11. Sister of Legolas?
    14. The Cousin It look is uber creepy. Why is the A red?
    15. That picture is gorgeous but you’re right, the font completely throws the whole thing off.
    16. Creepy red eyed birds.
    17. It’s like the ‘Everybody Sees the Ants’ girl version.
    20. Strangely enough I find this quite appealing.
    23. Ooooh that looks creepy. I like. Except it’s from Egmont and I don’t have the greatest of luck with their books.
    24. hahahaha It’s totally the same font used for the band Godsmack.

    4. I really like the cover of this one! Though, I keep thinking it looks like they’re falling backwards.

    5. The background for this one is really neat! The rest is just boring.

    7. When I first saw this, my brain tried to read the authors name as part of the title. I want to actually be able to tell the difference between the title and the authors name at first glance. The map idea is kind of neat for the background, though!

    15. Oooh, I love the image for this one! 🙂 It would amazing if the font was different!

    17. The eye on this one is really creepy looking to me. Blah, don’t like it. 🙁

    18. This is really pretty overall, but the guy looks kind of..odd?

    20. I really like this one! The city in the background is pretty, the fonts interesting, and it just looks good overall! The only thing I wish was different is the top part of the book. I feel like there should be something in the background up there.

    22. There is too much neon purple on this cover to me.

    25. Eh, I like her dress and flower headband. 🙂

    26. Oooh, pretty mask! Masquerade masks are always a good thing! 🙂

    27. The font on this one is beautiful! 🙂

    29. I actually love the cover of this one!

    1. I don’t love the first one, but the second is kind of freaky looking… I guess the fist one.

    2. I usually love illustrated covers but this one is just… kind of boring to me? I guess? Glitter is a weakness of mine, I’ll pick the first one!

    3. I love the city background on the first one, but otherwise it’s just blah. The second one look unique! 🙂

    4. From what I know of the book, the first one fits it better. But personally I like the second one more. I just really like that font!

    5. The first one.

This is my first time commenting on this (instead of just reading everyone else’s comments on it), and it was pretty fun to! 🙂

  17. 2. I thought they’d already milked that cow dry! I guess not. Or maybe the casting for the Fallen movie gave the cow more milk-money. Poor little moo-cow. It just wants to retire to its happy pasture!

    3. I would cut off the top to use just the bottom as a skirt. PRETTY.

    4. You just know that’s her fourth infinity shirt. Her sister drew appropriately placed nipples on the first three.

    5. Now THIS needs to be a 3D book cover. The title letters practically punch you in the face they extend so far out from the cover!

    6. HELLOOOOOOOOOOO, SEXY COVER. (I’m amazed it finally has a cover. It’s been on Goodreads since 2010, I think!) The Cassandra Clare pitch scares me, but fuck it. ME WAAAAAAAAAANT.

    8. POC model! Therefore, A++.

    10. Yep, they’s some swanky carpeted steps. (OH GOD, I’M TURNING SOUTHERN AGAIN.)

    11. Not a big fan of this one. She’s overly CG to me and it looks like she’s running somewhere while slightly drowsy. I make that face when I start getting sleepy.

    15. I can haz poster of photo? I would hang that up in my room with pride.

    16. That bird must have been present when they revealed whodunnit. He looks very shocked.

    19. Is she looking at us or are we looking at her? ANSWER THE QUESTION.

    20. I like it! I think the font is what makes it work.

    22. CAN I SNUGGLES IT? I WANT TO SNUGGLES IT. I liek purple. I liek it so much it kills my ability to be a rational human being who can’t spell.

    25. Not a big fan of this cover (except the flower headband–I WANT IT), but I’m still really looking forward to the book.

    1. OH YEAH, THAT SCENE. I don’t care for the redesign, though. Too weird.

    3. I SUPPOSE I prefer the US one because it’s just as gaudy as Vegas itself, but I still dislike it for the triangles and whatever is wrong with her neck.

    4. Its cover should be of a penis’s silhouette underwater.

    5. I didn’t care for the original cover because the model looked too drawn for me, so I think the new one is an improvement. Her hair is still very unfortunate, though.

    2. She probably means all the pretty poses her privates can make. That’s why she’s bent the way she is!

  18. I love the title treatment for Princess of Thorns. So cool, with the thorns.

And everyone loves the cover for For Real, and I’m just like, you for real? HA DO YOU SEE WHAT I DID THERE I am tired.

I like the cover for Blood of My Blood but feel it could have been better if the title weren’t that font. It takes away from it, IMO. Obviously it’s supposed to be like blood, but if it was like These Broken Stars font and red I think the cover would have been more awesome. *shrug*

Holy wow The Last Changeling is gorgeous from afar. Really good for Flux. But of course I probably won’t be reading it because it’s Flux so 90% it’s going to suck.

re: Extraction, is she looking through a tube, or is that like space and there’s a wormhole and her face is behind it, like Pawn and the sewer thingy? Bleh.

LOL AT THUNDERSTRUCK OMG WHAT IS THAT. The second book’s cover is so nice, though!

Oh, I really like the cover for Amity. PLUS AMITYVILLE HORROR YA I MUST READ. Egmont has been on top of their game this past year.

I don’t like either of the covers for The Rules. AND WHAT DOES THE TAGLINE SAY ON THE NEW ONE?

I also don’t like either cover for The Secret Diamond sisters, but the Australian cover is definitely better than the US.

I like this new cover for September Girls! I mean, it does kind of match the book’s contents, since it’s all about love and “mermaids”, but yeah. I like both of these covers. The hardback is starker, but the paperback conveys the “summery” feel more than the HB. I also like the placement of Bennett’s name on the PB.

  19. Bahaha I love this feature!

    7. Omg I thought the same thing that you did, the author’s name has like no indication that it’s anything different from the actual title like wtf?

    9. I like your comment about that cover berry much

    10. lol I actually loved that cover at first then I realized how bad the Photoshop job was.

    13. Looks like the gods are crying lightning today!

    14. I just had a serious Pretty Little Liar complex because A

    20. Totally agree, the cover works so beautifully and perfectly. I love handwriting and pastel-colored things like that.

    23. Love the cover, looks like the Amity aren’t being so peaceful anymore *snickers at own joke because I can*

    4. Oof somehow the September Girls covers got worse

    3. Omg I hate the Mortal instruments covers with a passion they’re so like cheesy and the models look so fake, no offense to anybody who does like them. But still it looks like the models are about to explode into the sun.

    3. I love the colors on this cover, too!

    6. I just saw this on another blog and love it! The book sounds fantastic, too!

    18. Haha! I liked this until I noticed the wings!

    1. Paperback!

    2. Paperback! Unless the hardcover is SUPER sparkly in real life…

    3. I honestly don’t care for either, but I’m super excited to read this soon! The Australian also looks too Alice in Wonderland.

    4. The Paperback does look better, but…still not interested.

    5. Hardback!

    1. I cannot unsee the penis. Thanks.

    2. I’d call that an awkward pose.

    3. There is so much going on!!!

  21. I think this was a pretty good week cover wise! Lots of covers I liked. Everything Leads to You is definitely one of my new favourites. I actually love the Twilight cover look so most of the covers with black were preferable. I actually don’t hate The Book of Life UK cover. The reason I didn’t pick it was because the font isn’t clear to read with the overlap, and the other one was a pretty good cover imo.

I hate the Princess of Thorns cover. Of Beast and Beauty was so pretty but this cover… nope. Not my taste at all.

Anyway, great week! And great post as always!

15 The picture is kind of insanely pretty.

25 Thoreal!!! oh my gosh I’m dying. dying. But that’s kind of a cool cover – I’d give the book a chance.

29 I would like to be fictional too.

30 I totally read Kingdom Creepers and thought it was a very creepy cover.

The paperback Rules cover reminds me of the Dollhouse posters from like s1.

The Diamond sisters I was totally going for the Vegas cover until I realized the white had the other suits on it. Much more intriguing.
