Totally Should’ve Book Tag

Before I went on vacation, Jessie and Danielle posted this on Ageless Pages, and I knew I wanted to do it. They didn’t tag me, but I don’t let little things like that stop me.
A Book That Totally Should’ve Had a Sequel
Macmillan, I am still waiting. I need more Rebel Mechanics. It’s funny, has excellent shipping potential, and I really just need everyone to read it so the sequel can happen. Like, I just don’t get how publishers can publish something that’s clearly book one in a series and then drop it. If you’re not sure that you want book two, make sure the novel stands alone well enough if book two doesn’t happen. This is not rocket science. Anyway, this book rocks, but I NEED MORE.
A Book That Totally Should’ve Had a Spin-Off
First off, I’m going to be needing a spinoff of Girl Against the Universe, which okay isn’t even out yet but I’m just saying, about Jade. And how Jade likes ladies as well as dudes. Specifically about how she likes Jordy’s sister. I beg you, Paula.
Being less cheat-y, I also still desperately want that spin-off of Daughter of Smoke and Bone about Ziri and Liraz. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. So basically I want spin-offs for more ship. Literally no one is surprised.
An Author That Should Totally Write More Books
KRISTIN CASHORE. THERE HASN’T BEEN A NEW BOOK SINCE 2012. HOW. WHY.
A Character Who Totally Should’ve Ended Up with Someone Else
This mostly happens to me with manga. My biggest betrayal of all time was Ouran. I shipped her with FOUR of the six guys. And, of course, it was the one I unshipped with the fire of a million suns. BETRAYED. I’ll just never be over it tbh. I actually have a post about Second Love Interest Syndrome, if you want more yelling about shippy betrayal.
A Book That Totally Should’ve Ended Differently
Fairly unpopular opinion time but I am still so upset about Ruin & Rising. In general, the book kind of let me down, but the very end was especially horrible. View Spoiler » I’d love to see this one with Alina ending up alone or really almost anything but what happened here.
A Book Series That Totally Should’ve Had a Movie Franchise
Hmmmmm, this one is always tough for me because I think the movie versions frequently destroy what was good about the book. It’s also tough because most of the things that I think would be cool movies only just started so they might still get one. Thus cheating. It might still get that movie franchise, and I hope so because it’s a really cinematic, cool idea. It’s also more descriptive and a bit less character-driven, which I think makes translating it a bit easier because there’s more room to adapt.
A Book or Series That Totally Should’ve Been a TV Show
Okay, apparently I hate myself, because this would start so happy and hilarious, and then it would ruin my emotions for all of time but whatever I still want it. Give me a Croak tv show, so I can feel every feel ever.
Really, I hate myself because The Fixer series will also make me cry, goddammit. But it’s like VMars on steroids and it would be so fucking good. GIVE.
A Book That Totally Should’ve Had One Point of View
It’s no secret that the POVs in Allegiant were a hot ass mess. I’m also a pretty fucking firm believer in not adding a POV partway through a series. It’s a sure sign the author didn’t know what was going to happen, and thus that they would need the other POV until the series had started being published. There are exceptions, but this is not one. How much more badass would this book have been if View Spoiler ». More broadly, though, any dual first person POV where the author can’t manage disparate voices should have just been one.
A Book or Series That Totally Should Have Had a Cover Change
It might just be me, but I am really not a fan of the Lumatere covers. Froi especially is vaguely upsetting. That facial hair tho. It’s got to be possible to get something better for Queen Melina.
A Book or Series That Totally Should’ve Kept the Original Covers
Copying Jessie here but they did horrific things to Lynburn. Shown here is the original, adorable, illustrated cover.
Also, I haven’t read it yet, but I love the original Born Wicked cover, and the redesigns are horribly saccharine. Pictured here is the sexy original cover.
Oh oh oh and the Books of Bayern. So many covers have gotten worse. It’s very sad.
A Series That Totally Should’ve Stopped After Book One
Well, it shocks me to have to say this, but Mistborn. The first book is amazing, with a strong female lead, and badass plot. Then the series goes to sexist shit. I mean, the first book has its problems with that too, considering that she’s the only girl in the book basically, but STILL. I wish that I hadn’t ever tried to read the sequels because now Mistborn is tainted for me, and that really fucking sucks. Book one even stands alone well. Fucking goddammit.

I’ll unpopular opinion with you in regards to Ruin and Rising. I would have LOVED to see Alina end up with The Darkling or alone. Sometimes, evil needs to win out!
