I’ve Got You Covered (7)

For those who don’t know, I’ve Got You Covered replaced Cover Snark. Now, I’m only featuring my favorite of the new or very recent covers. Hope you enjoy the design porn!

Middle Grade

1. Double Cross (Mrs. Smith’s Spy School for Girls #3) – Beth McMullen

Love the covers for this series, double cross my heart and hope to spy.

2. Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky (Tristan Strong #1) – Kwame Mbalia

MG Black Panther vibes, which is obvs a great thing.

3. The Friendship Lie – Rebecca Donnelly

I know I’m reading my own experiences onto this cover, but I feel this so hard. Tension between friends is so painful, and this is a fanciful take on that. The way you feel so isolated, even though you’re not alone, and maybe even a bit at sea.

4. The Light Jar – Lisa Thompson

There’s something both soothing and a bit menacing about this all at once. And obvs the font, the artwork, the background, and all of that is perf. FYI The Light Jar is available now!

5. The Thief Knot (Greenglass House #) – Kate Milford

That level of detail though. I’m knot disappointed.

6. Game of Stars (Kiranmala and the Kingdom Beyond #2) – Sayantani Dasgupta

Impressed as I was with the first cover in this series, this might actually be even better? Available now!

Young Adult

1. The Lady Rogue – Jenn Bennett

Dragon + Lady Rogue + shiny + Jenn Bennett = GRABBIEST HANDS

2. The Stonewall Riots: Coming Out in the Streets – Gayle E. Pitman

Read the rainbow.

3. Nocturna (A Forgery of Magic #1) – Maya Motayne

As I clapped eyes on this the first time, I actually gasped. And maybe drooled a little.

4. Vow of Thieves (Dance of Thieves #2) – Mary E. Pearson

Paisley was an interesting choice, but I like it anyway.

5. His Hideous Heart: 13 of Edgar Allan Poe’s Most Unsettling Tales Reimagined – Dahlia Adler, ed.

Absolutely love them for illustrating a rather adorable literal heart. The color palette and fonts are also on point. Quite pre-poe-sessing.

6. Just for Clicks – Kara McDowell

I’m actually a bit surprised how much I love the very #instagram covers, but I think it’s that they feel very teen and also very current, when fiction can run behind the times on technology. Not to mention that they’re adorable.

7. Serpent & Dove (Serpent & Dove #1) – Shelby Maturin

As much as I love the shiny, I don’t tend to like it when they cross the line to gaudy, which this one totally does but that just makes it better somehow?!?!?!

8. Frankly in Love – David Yoon

Like you don’t hope there’s amazing texture on the cover. This cut out thing is fucking awesome.

9. When She Reigns (The Fallen Isles Trilogy, #3) – Jodi Meadows

While I’m not totally sold on how the elements come together, I love them all enough individually that this made the cut. Don’t miss the little dragon hidden in the background on the lower left!

10. The Paper & Hearts Society (The Paper & Hearts Society #1) – Lucy Powrie

GPOM. JK, I do not read outside because bugs and weather and people are there.

11. A Kingdom for a Stage (For a Muse of Fire #2) – Heidi Heilig

No stage or kingdom would make me fight that monster. This is why I’m not a YA heroine. Also because I’m 31, but w/e shut up.

12. Hero (Monster #3) – Michael Grant

I don’t want to support Michael Grant, but I DO want to support his cover artist.

13. Verify (Verify #1) – Joelle Charbonneau

A bit puzzled by the white border, but it’s what HarperTeen released, so I guess that’s a thing, but omg love the styling of this.

14. The Athena Protocol – Shamim Sarif

She’s so fucking cool I’m getting chills.

15. The Shortest Distance Between Love & Hate – Sandy Hall

Despite my pet peeve of faceless illustrations, I loooooove the fonts and the colors and hello shippy catnip title!

16. The Speed of Falling Objects – Nancy Richardson Fischer

The way that it draws my eye in and creates a real sense of motion is amazing. And that shade of greennnnnnn

17. Tunnel of Bones (Cassidy Blake #2) – Victoria Schwab

You just can’t help but skullk in this tunnel. FYI, this is the UK cover.

18. Tunnel of Bones (Cassidy Blake #2) – Victoria Schwab

The US edition has a bit more of a Tim Burton vibe, but it’s still awesome.

19. Dangerous Alliance – Jennieke Cohen

Austen/ten stars.

20. Crown of Oblivion – Julie Eshbaugh

Her fierce look and that crown made of dust and how it looks like she’s stomping away from an explosion. BOSS.

21. An Illusion of Thieves (Chimera #1) – Cate Glass

This may be my absolute favorite one? It gets more perfect every single moment I spend staring at it in wonderment.

22. The Voice in My Head – Dana L. Davis

So cute, and there’s a call to read the book because you want to know how the eff they ended up on top of that school bus.

23. Eight Will Fall (Eight Will Fall #1) – Sarah Harian

She must have one hell of a headache.

24. Winterwood – Shea Ernshaw

BRB mooning over this cover, which is different from mooning it FYI.

25. This Time Will Be Different – Misa Sugiura

She looks a bit like wallpaper with the flowers growing out of her but super gorgeous wallpaper. And I swear those eyes have secrets.

26. No Big Deal – Bethany Rutter

She just looks like she’s living her best damn life in that crop top outfit.

27. The Art of Breaking Things – Laura Sibson

The styling is sooooo 80s/90s but apparently that’s cool to the teens now, and I love the hair and the way jacket triangles are twirling off the jacket.

28. The Stars We Steal – Alexa Donne

The texturing on the back is amazing, and it’s sooooo shiny.

29. Midnight Beauties (Grim Lovelies #2) – Megan Shepherd

Dark Disney vibes.

30. A Thousand Years to Wait (Tarrowburn Prophecies #1) – L. Ryan Storms

That moment when you’ve looked at a cover a bunch of times without realizing that’s a pendant hanging on a necklace. Apparently they grow mushrooms if left to wait a thousand years.

Adult

1. Barnum: An American Life – Robert Wilson

That gold shiny title font is life, and I love the way the N forms the tent flap. Simple, iconic, and shiny.

2. The Grand Dark – Richard Kadrey

Black, white, and, the publisher hopes, read all over.

3. Meet Me in Monaco – Hazel Gaynor & Heather Webb

Someone give me that dress and those gloves. I NEEDS THEM.

4. Rebel (Women Who Dare #1) – Beverly Jenkins

Look at that gorgeous rep. Also living for that series title. And laughing at how huge Shondaland is on there.

5. Faker – Sarah Smith

I looked at this so many times before I noticed the hammer and saw comforter. This is just so cute.

6. Gods of Jade and Shadow – Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Mayan fantasy!!!!

7. The Affair of the Mysterious Letter – Alexis Hall

You know, I think I’d be more focused on the flying octopus than a letter, so that must be one really fucking mysterious letter.

8. We Went to the Woods – Caite – Dolan-Leach

Even birches gotta admit this leafs the competition behind.

9. The Rosie Result (Don Tillman #3) – Graeme Simsion

*suddenly gets hungry for the orange packed in my lunch* This cover is delicious…I mean, pretty.

10. The Heavens – Sandra Newman

Shiny, captain. And available now.

11. Darkdawn (Nevernight #3) – Jay Kristoff

The US covers have a super special place in my heart, but the UK covers are also totally bomb. If you have another opinion, Kindly fuck off.

12. The Ten Thousand Doors of January – Alix E. Harrow

This one looks a bit strange to me when I see a small version of it, but up close, it’s luscious, detailed, and drool-worthy. Especially the detail of the keys hanging all over imo.

Middle grade covers are simply the best. About 70 percent of the books are on my to-read list. It’s going to be a good year book wise.
