For this week’s TTT, rather than talking about ARCs I’m excited about (because inevitably if I put them in a TTT post, I end up hating them), I’m going to let you guys have a window into my upcoming free reads (aka books I’m reading not for review). Here are the ones I have coming up that I’m most excited about! I make no promise to actually get to them this fall, but whatever.

Blackbringer - Laini Taylor
Jellicoe Road - Melina Marchetta

Blackbringer & Silksinger by Laini Taylor

Copies of Laini Taylor’s Silksinger are almost impossible to find, so when I lucked into one at Books of Wonder, I snatched it up. I’ve heard it’s not as good as the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series (how could it be tbh?), but I’m still so curious.

Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

I’ve been working through Marchetta’s backlist with minimal success honestly, since I didn’t much like Looking for Alibrandi, liked but decidedly did not love Saving Francesca, and couldn’t get through The Piper’s Son. Still, Jellicoe Road is meant to be her best contemporary by far and massively shippy, so I’m hopeful to find a Marchetta contemporary that works for me.

The Porcupine of Truth - Bill Konigsberg
Made You Up - Francesca Zappia

The Porcupine of Truth by Bill Konigsberg

One of my favorite books I’ve read this year is Konigsberg’s Openly Straight, so I decided to work through his backlist. I already read Out of the Pocket, which was also really good, and my hopes are high for The Porcupine of Truth. I mean, that title alone is a delight.

Made You Up by Francesca Zeppia

Debby (Snuggly Oranges) told me that I HAD to read this book because ship, and when Debby says that I get VERY EXCITED. I bought it based on her flailing, and I’m finally going to read it. Woo!

Rebel Magisters (Rebel Mechanics #2) - Shanna Swendson

Love by the Numbers by Sarah MacLean

You’ve probably noticed that I’ve gotten really into historical romance lately, and Sarah MacLean is supposed to be one of the best. I need a new obsession since I’ve almost entirely run out of Tessa Dare books.

Rebel Magisters by Shanna Swendson

Bless Shanna Swendson for self-publishing the sequel to Rebel Mechanics, which I loved last year and which very much does not standalone. Gillian (Writer of Wrongs) read it immediately and said it’s every bit as shippy and amazing as we’ve dreamed ever since we read book one.

The Shadow Hour (The Girl at Midnight #2) - Melissa Grey

Brothers Sinister by Courtney Milan

Ever since my dive into historical romance last year, the top recs after Tessa Dare were Sarah MacLean and Courtney Milan, so obviously I have to read them both ASAP.

The Shadow Hour by Melissa Grey

Yes, obviously I need this sequel to the massively shippy The Girl at Midnight. I preordered but obviously I’m not the most timely at getting to stuff that’s not for review. BUT WHATEVER IT IS HAPPENING.

The Rose and the Dagger (The Wrath and the Dawn #2) - Renee Ahdieh
Crooked Kingdom - Leigh Bardugo

The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh

Soon, SOON, I shall be with my darling Shazi again. I could not have loved The Wrath and the Dawn more, and I’m annoyed it’s going to take me this long to get there, but oh well. Blogging is hard, man.

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

After work today, I’m going home and my preorder should be waiting for me. I’m diving straight in, which I usually don’t actually do, because if I get spoiled for this series, I will burn the world to the ground, since Six of Crows is legit one of my favorite books ever (and it one hundred and fifty percent lived up to my reread). Like, I don’t even want to know if people liked it. That’s how much this means to me.
