January & February 2016: Month in Review

What I’ve Been Up To:

It’s not been a banner start to the year blogging-wise. I went through a serious reading slump, and obviously blogging followed along. Now, on the plus side, it wasn’t because of books and blogging; I’ve been massively busy at work on a project, with business trips and stuff, and I just did not have the energy for reading anything at the end of the day. However, I’m back until the next project consumes my life.

Here are the new books that came in January and February (well, minus a few February books going in the March haul because I failed to Instagram them):

Multiple trips to middle-of-nowhere New Jersey totally do not count as shenanigans. Otherwise, boyfriend and I have done some fun stuff, like getting dressed up for his birthday, which we celebrated by eating nice food and exploring thrift shops.

.@cococookhouse is feeling grumpy about getting older. He'll cheer up when we get some tasty food. #selfie #birthdayboy

Also, most importantly, boyfriend is fostering a kitten. I’m hoping he decides to keep the kitten, but I guess we’ll see in a month or two. This is me with Oliver. It will totally break my heart if Oliver goes to a new home because I’m already in love with that wee face.

Because of business trips again, I haven’t been listening to too much new music, but here’s the stuff I found.  Most obsessed with the cover of Dreams by Gabrielle Aplin and Bastille.

Movies & TV:

Oh man, okay, so I finished Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, which is one of the best shows of all time and NEEDS MORE SEASONS. The ending was tragedy because I thought the third season would be as long as the first two and all of a sudden it was over and SUCH TEARS. Ship rating: PERFECTION.

On my two week long business trip, all I had energy for was watching tv, and, obvs, I wanted brain candy. Since Australia did me a solid with Miss Fisher’s, I decided to watch Dance Academy. I have major love/hate feelings for this show. There are things I adore about it but it also did so much shitty stuff and THAT ENDING WAS UNACCEPTABLE. Ship rating: FRUSTRATION TO THE MAX BUT I STILL SHIP IT.

Rating-wise, this continues to be an amazing reading year for me. So far, there have only been two books I’ve finished that have earned less than three stars from me. And review books have been so much shippier than 2015. BLESS.

I haven’t been DNFing as much but I also haven’t been reading as much, so there’s probably a correlation there. I’ve been DNFing pretty well though, based on my high ratings.

The Radiant Road - Katherine Catmull
I See Reality Twelve Short Stories About Real Life
The Evening Spider - Emily Arsenault
Winterwood - Jacey Bedford
The Shadow Queen - C. J. Redwine
The Hero of Ages (Mistborn #3) - Brandon Sanderson pb
Underneath Everything - Marcy Beller Paul
Right Kind of Mistake - Rebecca Thomas
