Top Ten Authors I’d Love to Meet

I’m on a business trip and don’t really have time to get really involved, so this is going to be pretty bare bones. Because I’ve been to so many conferences, I’ve actually been lucky enough to meet most of the authors that I wanted to, but there will always be more.

1. Trish Doller

Something Like Normal
Where the Stars Still Shine - Trish Doller
The Devil You Know - Trish Doller

First, I’ve read and loved all of Trish’s books, except The Devil You Know, which I’m going to be reading super soon. Second, Trish and I are friends, and we live in neighboring states, so it ought to be super possible. SOMEDAY IT WILL HAPPEN.

2. Jay Kristoff

Stormdancer - Jay Kristoff
Kinslayer - Jay Kristoff
Endsinger - Jay Kristoff

I’ve talked to Jay quite a bit on the internet, and he seems like a totally awesome literary giant. Of course, he also lives in Australia, so meeting him hasn’t ever even been an option.

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1) - Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

3. Melina Marchetta

Finnikin of the Rock - Melina Marchetta
Froi of the Exiles - Melina Marchetta
Quintana of Charyn - Melina Marchetta

Before I meet Marchetta, I want to read all of her other books, which, tbh, I haven’t done yet. I’ve only read Lumatere, which, I know, is shameful. My not having read any of her contemporaries for which she’s better known, I mean; Lumatere is very much not shameful. Lumatere is fabulous, and I will hear nothing to the contrary. She’s also in Australia. Maybe I need to travel to Australia and meet all the authors, though I’m not sure how I would convince them of the need to meet me. Also, I could hang out with Kat Kennedy, and oh hey I think I’m off topic.

Jellicoe Road - Melina Marchetta
Saving Francesca - Melina Marcetta
The Piper's Son - Melina Marchetta

4. Chris Howard

Rootless - Chris Howard

Chris Howard is friends with one of my author buddies, M.G. Buehrlen (The 57 Lives of Alex Wayfare). As such, I’ve gotten to know Chris a bit, and he’s a really great guy who totally nerds out over Star Wars. It would be awesome to get to hang out irl.

5. Kasie West

Pivot Point
Split Second
The Distance Between Us - Kasie West

Kasie West has five books published already, and I’ve loved all of them to varying degrees. Her latest, The Fill-In Boyfriend is my favorite to date, and I’d love to find out what Kasie’s favorite ships are in person, because man can she write amazing ships.

The Fill-In Boyfriend - Kasie West

6. Seanan Maguire/Mira Grant

I’ve not actually read any Seanan books yet, but I love her writing as Mira Grant so much that I can’t imagine I won’t adore those too. I’m excited that I have so much catching up to do. I just really want to meet the creator of Newsflesh.

Parasite - Mira Grant
Symbiont (Parasitology #2) - Mira Grant
Chimera (Parasitology #3) - Mira Grant

7. Chuck Wendig

Atlanta Burns - Chuck Wendig
Blackbirds (Miriam Black #1) -Chuck Wendig Angry Robot
Zeroes - Chuck Wendig

I’ve not read Chuck Wendig’s novels at all, and I’m not sure if I will or not, but I LOVE his Twitter and his blog a lot. When I say “meet,” I mostly just mean stand nearby and listen to him talk, because I’m not sure that I’m clever and funny enough to carry on a conversation with Wendig, but I want to hear him speak with my actual ears.

8. Courtney Summers

What Goes Around - Courtney Summers
Fall for Anything - Courtney Summers
All the Rage - Courtney Summers

I love love love Courtney Summers’ novels. Even my least favorites, I would still push on you as strongly as I can. Her books are important and amazing and everyone needs to read them. She’s also delightfully strange on Twitter, and I really want to know what it would be like to hang out with her.

This Is Not a Test - Courtney Summers
Please Remain Calm - Courtney Summers

9. Delilah S. Dawson

Wicked as She Wants - Delilah S. Dawson
Hit - Delilah S. Dawson
Strike (Hit #2) - Delilah S. Dawson

This may seem odd since I wasn’t a big fan of the one Dawson novel I read, but, like with Wendig, I love everything she tweets and blogs. I don’t need it to be a conversation, but I want to be in a room listening to her be Delilah Dawson. I know I sound like a creep, but whatever.

10. Kody Keplinger

Shut Out - Kody Keplinger
A Midsummer's Nightmare

Kody’s YA novels rank among my very favorite contemporary novels. There’s no way she will ever write anything I will not read, though I admit that her middle grade I’m slower to get to, because what do you mean NO KISSING SCENES. Ahem. I’m sure it’s wonderful though. Kody seems so awesome and down to earth, and Debby (Snuggly Oranges) spoke of her in glowing terms when they met at the Kid’s Author Carnival last year.

I adore Seanan McGuire’s October Daye series – if you like urban fantasy, I highly, highly recommended them. (And the series has my all time fave ship. Just saying’. Toby/Tybalt forevs. <3 )

I DIGRESS. Love your choice of authors. If I came face to face with Melina Marchetta though, I would probably just gape at her like a fish.

  3. OH MAN I didn’t know you hadn’t met Kody. Now I just remember crying in that bar when she tweeted me after lolwut. I think she’s going to be at Teen Author Carnival this year? But you’ll probably have ten million other events to go to xD

DITTO on Kasie West and Jay Kristoff. And I’ve only read Stormdancer because I fail, but come onnnn he’s so awesome!

If I did TTT my list would be eerily similar to yours.

This comment is useless, I mostly just wanted to shout at you about reading Melina. Because I’m sure no one does that ever and it’s not super annoying or anything.

  5. Trish is. So. NICE. And I’m aiming to read The Devil You Know soon, too! And, um. I’ve. Actually…never read anything by, uh, Melina Marchetta. I’ve been eyeing Finnikin and Jellicoe Road, but as of yet…nope. And I haven’t read anything by Kasie West, which is silly because her books look completely up my alley. Also, I’ve heard she’s a super sweet person, so I’m glad to see her on this list!
