Cover Snark (136): Hello, Goodbye, and Snark in Between

Welcome to Cover Snark, where the people are snarky and the covers quiver in fear. Since I don’t write many snarky book reviews here on A Reader of Fictions, Cover Snark is my outlet. If you click on the title of the book, where possible, I’ve linked to Goodreads. Clicking on the cover itself will show you the cover in a larger size, in most cases. Feel free to love covers I hate and vice versa. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Shiny and New:

1. Never Always Sometimes – Adi Alsaid
Never Always Sometimes - Adi Alsaid
Thoughts: What interesting color combo choices. I really wanted the lighter blue letters in the title to spell out a message or something. No dice.

2. Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between – Jennifer E. Smith

Thoughts: Is that pink city rising up out of the ocean?!?

Thoughts: EW.

4. Luckiest Girl Alive – Jessica Knoll
Luckiest Girl Alive - Jessica Knoll
Thoughts: Why do I feel like that black rose made her lucky like Audrey II made Suddenly Seymour lucky?

5. A Madness So Discreet – Mindy McGinnis
A Madness So Discreet - Mindy McGinnis
Thoughts: Duuuuude, so creepy and gorgeous all at once. Mindy McGinnis has done excellent sacrifices to the cover gods.

6. P.S. I Still Love You (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before #2) – Jenny Han

Thoughts: Is this book secretly about Gillian (Writer of Wrongs)?!?!?!

8. Nowhere But Here (Thunder Road #1) – Katie McGarry

Thoughts: What’s the point of having transportation if you’re not going to go anywhere?

9. Sunny Side Up – Jennifer L. Holm

Thoughts: I am so jealous of the girl on this cover. VACATION, I AM COMING.

Fearless (The Avena Series) - Marianne Curley

Ten Thousand Skies Above You - Claudia Gray
Thoughts: Eiffel in love the moment I saw this cover.

13. Planetfall – Emma Newman
Planetfall - Emma Newman
Thoughts: In the smaller version, I was like eh, but then I blew it up and what look like bubbles or dots are a bunch of tiny objects. Still not sure what the tiny objects are, but it’s cool.

Thoughts: Snarkiness

15. Lock & Mori (Lock & Mori #1) – Heather W. Petty
Lock & Mori (Lock & Mori #1) - Heather W. Petty

18. The One Thing – Marci Lyn Curtis

Cover Battles:

1. The Return (Titan #1) – Jennifer L. Armentrout

US vs. UK: The UK cover is way better from my perspective. It’s not exactly a unique concept, but way more so than Mr. Squinty Face.

2. Black Ice – Becca Fitzpatrick

WTF of the Week:

WTF of the Week began as a special category for one cover I saw, but was so popular it became a recurring feature. Here, I highlight covers, both new and old, that I’ve found, which, upon viewing, made me either snort or say something along the lines of “Dear God, what is that thing?” If you would like to be part of the fun and have spotted a truly hilarious or horrifying cover, submit it and your snark to and you might be included, though I will filter through submissions and limit the number of entries per week.

1. Finding Out (Hawks Motorcycle Club #2.5) – Lila Rose
Finding Out - Lila Rose
Thoughts: It definitely looks like he’s threatening her. Look at his grip on her hair and her expression. That is not a sexy hair grab.

2. The Diary of Bink Cummings, Volume 1 (MC Chronicles #1) – Bink Cummings

Thoughts: Wait for it…

3. The Diary of Bink Cummings, Volume 2 (MC Chronicles #2) – Bink Cummings

Thoughts: There it is.

I haven’t commented on one of your Cover Snark posts in so long!

    Ok let’s get to it…

    2. I love that this matches the style of the other covers but omg does it really need to be so pink? I feel like I’m staring at someone’s locker.

    3. HER EYES WTF? NO.

    5. That is gorgeous. I was looking at the top and going damn that’s pretty then I scrolled down and saw the rest and the person GRABBING HER FOOT and how she’s fallen through the floor and I was like damnnnnnn creepy. Such a cool cover.

    6. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. The teal font is beautiful and it still fits in with book 1. Her room is so nice.

    8. I actually really like this but the font reminds me of We Were Liars.

    10. These gorgeous covers make me want to read the book. This one is no exception. It seems like a cool concept too. Would definitely invest in the hardbacks for this series.

    12. BEST BEST BEST. If possible it’s even better than book 1. I like how these colours are bolder and richer – primary colours. Also, Eiffel Tower + San Francisco sort of reminds me of Anna + Lola covers combined HA.

    20. I really like this cover. The crow makes sense. But the head? I like the head more than the crow but together they don’t work idk.

    21. This is SUCH a cool cover. Very intricate. Very Ed Hardy and Guns n Roses style.

    WTF covers
    1. That looks like they Photoshopped 2 people together. Her expression is just wtf and he looks like a predator.

    Cover Battles
None of them. For both books. Don’t like either.

  2. Zed says:

The Finding Out cover is awful. WTF indeed.

  3. MJ says:

    1) Eh, who knew wadded up paper was considered trendy.

    7) I don’t know how I feel about the return of the cartoon.

    8) Well, at least this one will be a little easier to take out in public.

    12) Love

    15) Disappointing. Repent, repent, repent. And that guy is NOT Sherlock.

  4. I’d never heard of A Madness So Discreet before, but after the cover reveal I’m HIGHLY interested 😀 Though the hand on the foot is super creepy…

An even better question: why don’t I have a style like both of the To All the Boys covers? #lifegoals

Okay, hilarious pun, and yes same (for Ten Thousand Skies Above You). I’m just hoping that awful love triangle isn’t a major thing in this book!

Was so excited for Lock and Mori… but that cover D:

Crow head or not, An Inheritance of Ashes is STUNNING. Definitely watching for a full synopsis.

    Ten Thousand Skies Above You!

Claudia Grey has pleased the cover gods somehow.

Also, Eiffel puns for the win.

    6. Hair jealousy.
    7. Tackling one iced coffee at time….it speaks my name! My coffee addiction is all over that book.
    11. I would say her eyes look way more photoshopped. They are PURPLE.

  8. 5. Fantastic cover. The end grabbing her feet is the perfect touch to make it extra creepy.
    12. I thought it couldn’t get any better, but I think I love this one even more than A thousand pieces of you.

    Cover Battle.
    1. The UK version makes me more tempted to pick it up.

    10. I have no idea why, but I burst out laughing when I saw this cover. I don’t even know why it’s so awful. They all need little thought bubbles that say, “Acting. I am acting.”

  11. A few weeks late and I don’t caaaaaaare

    2. Oooooh, me gusta the pink.

    5. I wouldn’t call being pulled through a hole in the floor into the ground by hands “discreet,” but this IS an excellent cover.

    6. Everything about this cover is so CUTE and now I’m mad I can’t read the book because Jenny Han was a fan of Amy Spalding’s Bingo fuckery.

    15. This needs a cover redesign ASAP. We get a fun premise like female Moriarty and good old Holmes in a race to solve a mystery and Mori keeping a secret and get a cover like THIS? UGH UGH NO.

    21. Lovely illustration, but this just ain’t my color scheme.
