DNFs:

Not too many DNFs this month, but I did have a few.

Say What You Will by Cammie McGovern: The narrative voice annoyed me right off and I just really wasn’t getting a good vibe from this one. I got a friend to spoil the end for me after I’d quit and it would so not have been a Christina book. This was a good call for me. Full DNF review.

My Last Kiss by Bethany Neal: What I read really wasn’t terrible, but it didn’t grab me. I dropped it like a hot potato when it started reminding me of another ghost book that I LOATHED. I just cannot go back to that place. Full DNF review.

The Glass Sentence by S.E. Grove: The world building in The Glass Sentence is obviously very intricate and I’d guess this is actually going to be quite a good book. Why am I putting it down? Well, it’s really long and didn’t grab me yet. Mostly, I suspect this will not be a character-driven book, so much as world- and plot-driven. As such, I suspect the book will be a slog, like the opening was for me. I think this will be most excellent for the right kind of reader, but I’m skeptical of whether I’m that reader. If the reviews are good, this is one I might pick up again in the future.

The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North: The reviews for this are almost entirely awesome, but I’m bored. The characters aren’t proving compelling and neither the concept or writing alone are able to hold my attention.

What I’ve Been Watching:

On top of doing a lot of reading, I’ve got a major TV obsession. I’ll share my thoughts on the movies and television shows I see.

Movies:

Godzilla (2014): Yes, of all things in the theaters, I went to see Godzilla. I took my dad for Father’s Day, because he’s into this sort of thing. Sadly, I think we both felt pretty meh about it overall and prefer the roundly maligned Matthew Broderick one. Quel dommage.

She’s the Man: Rewatches of this movie are always necessary, especially after watching 17 First Kisses.

Miao Miao: Ugh, this Chinese movie sounded like it would be an adorable LGBT film, but instead it just toyed with the idea and NOTHING HAPPENED EVER. Boring.

Blazing Saddles: If you do not have this movie memorized, you probably miss half my references. Just saying, GILLIAN.

Television Shows:

School 2013: Another kdrama. I finished it early this month. It was okay, but there was NO ROMANCE, so obviously I was a bit unattached from what was happening. There SHOULD have been gay romance because my kanye did I ship it. Pretty sure the writers shipped it too.

Dating Agency: Cyrano: Shockingly, another kdrama. Again, only okay. I was entertained. It was really funny at the start, but then the end was all OH HEY WE NEED MORE DRAMA UP IN HERRRREEEE. And I did not so much like the sudden kidnapping and bomb threat vibe. The ship was okay, but not like KISS NOW I HAVE SO MANY FLAILS ABOUT THIS.

Gilmore Girls: I’m through the first two seasons and slowly chugging along. Obviously, this is the good times.

Sink or Ship?

After I had so much fun discussing the ships I would love to send the way of the Titanic on Twitter, Gaby (Queen Ella Bee Reads) got me thinking about adding this to my monthly wrap up. Each month, I’ll share any ships that I would go down with and any that just plain need to go down. I’ll try not to repeat ships unless there are status changes, because otherwise some would happen EVERY month.

I WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS SHIP:

School 2013:
Go Nam Soon-Park Heung Soo (THEY ARE SO IN LOVE GODDAMMIT)
gif school 2013 ship
gif school 2013 pillowfight
Jun In Jae-Kang Se Chan
gif school 2013 teachers
Gilmore Girls:
Max-Lorelai

Jess-Rory

MAKE LIKE THE TITANIC AND SINK:

Gimore Girls:
Lorelai-Christopher
lorelai christopher gilmore girls
Rory-Dean (they were cute in season one, but in season two noooope)

For a moment there when I first saw your post on bloglovin I was terrified about seeing Chris/Lorelai up there, fearing that you shipped them. Not that I, you know, care what other people ship. Let people ship what they want. But I might watch the people who ship Chris/Lorelai and silently judge them. A lot. >.>

Also. Yes. Good. Jess/Rory. I approve so much.

  3. Aaah, Gilmore Girls! I think I’m due for a re-watch, it’s been FOREVER since I last watched it from start to finish. Totally agree re Chris/Lorelai and Jess/Rory, and as for Dean/Rory, well that only gets worse after season 2!

I shipped the guys in School 2013! I don’t have to have romance in my show to like it but yeeeah I didn’t care much for the plot in here either (basically only watched it for those cute bromance moments 😀

I don’t like Rory/Dean either. Dean is so whiny, and I don’t know why Rory put up with him for as long as she did. Jess and Rory, however…I just love them. Max and Lorelei were a ship for me, too, though I also really liked her with Luke.

I really need to watch Gilmore Girls. I feel like the only person on the planet who hasn’t.
