April 2014: Month in Review

My review-posting is down, but I still had some great reads. And, with the changes I have planned as detailed in this post, I expect more good reads to come my way. There’s no comment giveaway this month, because it’s been a really expensive couple of months and BEA is coming up. That should return soon, though.

Reviews Posted in May:

5 star:

When I Was the Greatest – Jason Reynolds

4.5 star:

Five, Six, Seven, Nate! (Better Nate Than Ever #2) – Tim Federle
What I Thought Was True – Huntley Fitzpatrick
Open Road Summer – Emery Lord

4 star:

Ignite Me (Shatter Me #3) – Tahereh Mafi
Not a Drop to Drink – Mindy McGinnis
Words of Radiance (The Stormlight Archive #2) – Brandon Sanderson
She Is Not Invisible – Marcus Sedgwick

3.5 star:

Don’t Look Back – Jennifer L. Armentrout
Murder of Crows (The Others #2) – Anne Bishop
Free to Fall – Lauren Miller
The Thousand Dollar Tan Line (Veronica Mars #1) – Rob Thomas & Jennifer Graham

3 star:

Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices #3) – Cassandra Clare
I Don’t Know What You Know Me From – Judy Greer
We Were Liars – E. Lockhart
Stories I Only Tell My Friends – Rob Lowe
How to Fight Presidents – Daniel O’Brien
The Moon Sisters – Therese Walsh

2 star:

Legion – Brandon Sanderson

1 star:

A World Without Princes (The School for Good and Evil #2) – Soman Chainani

DNFs:

Sunrise – Mike Mullin: I was a big fan of the prior novels in the series, but, based on reviews, I determined it probably wasn’t worth finishing and that I might be happier keeping what already was safe in my head.

Love Life – Rob Lowe: I’d listened to his other audiobook, so this one was repetitive and it felt like the more interesting stories were in the first book. Full DNF review.

The Last Wild – Piers Torday: I loved the narrator’s voice, but I DNFed immediately when there was a scene in which the main character was covered in cockroaches. Full DNF review.

Dark Eden – Chris Beckett: The writing style pained mine ears. SO MANY REPEATED WORDS. Full DNF Review.

  1. Oh, I was glad to see the second Stormlight Archive book was a four star for you. I have the first one on my to buy list as soon as I feel like I’ve knocked enough out of the TBR to justify buying it!

I have heard a lot of good things about We Were Liars by E Lockheart, I am surprised that you didn’t like it too much. I might still have to give it a try though and see for myself soon! But I am so glad that you liked What I thought Was True. Dying to get my hands on that one soon. I really enjoyed the last book by Fitzpartrick:)

  4. Aww it seems like it was a really great month for you; most of the books are above a 3-star rating 🙂 Hope you have fun in BEA later this month!!

If you don’t have any of these in your home (your mom has gone eco-crazy and replaced them all with fluorescents), you can use a hair dryer or even put your message in the oven on the lowest heat setting.
