  1. Pssst. Your link to Bekka’s blog is’t working! 😉

I really wanted a copy of The Counterfeit Family Tree and I Requested it on Edelweiss but they declined me, which is fine because I have a ton of books already. I will wait for you to review it and let me know how it is!

I agree. The cover of Enders is awful. I hate the cover of Starters too, and honestly that’s the main reason I haven’t read the series. Shallow, I know. Oh well.

I will be reading Red Rising soon so it will be interesting to see what side I fall on. I really hope I like it though.

So happy to see you with a copy of Lost Lake! I loved it. It’s not my favorite Allen book but I still really enjoyed it and it’s in the top.

Ack! Nobody saw that. <.< >.>

Oooh, I hope it’s good. Pretty sure there were no friend reviews of Counterfeit, so it could really be anything.

Sending you these, and I don’t care if you put bags on their heads. The world building makes me squinty eyed, but I think they’re fun. It’s the kind of world building where you just accept it, rather than Divergent where it’s like no way in hell, if that makes sense. One intellectual leap rather than hundreds.

Good luck to you. If it doesn’t give you an actual headache, you might get to the awesome part and love it.

Awww, well, I’ve only read three Allen books and it’s been a while, so maybe I’ll love it. It’s in the top?

  2. Bekka says:

I really liked Maybe One Day, but I do agree with Jenni that the portrayal of cancer treatment wasn’t exactly accurate. But I really loved the story and the characters, so I was able to ignore some of the inaccuracies.

I really, really, really hope you like Alice. I know it’s super early, but I’m pretty sure that will end up being one of my favorite books of the year. I just loved the way it was written and how it did not shy away from the ugliness of the story.

I’ve got Panic coming up soon and I’m just not sure about it. I’ve been seeing so-so reviews so far, and I really didn’t like her Delirium series. But I did enjoy Before I Fall so hopefully Delirium was the fluke.

Red Rising has been such a disappointment, but I’m glad to have you and Bonnie read it before me. I had it preordered, but thanks to you guys, I just saved myself $20 and a headache.

Yeah, i can see that part already. Within 8 hours, she had bruises identified, a number of tests, and was admitted to the hospital for treatment. I doubt that it would move that fast even for a movie star or head of state.

I tend to love books like that, so I hope so. And the fact that it deals with all the slut-shaming and bullying well, since it passed the Bekka test, is hugely encouraging.

Yeah, I’m a bit afraid of Panic, but April liked it and we agree quite often, so I’m hopeful.

Maybe still try it in case you fall in with the people who aren’t me and Bonnie, but library for safesies. You can always buy it later if you love it, you know? I’d almost preordered it too. I should double check that I didn’t.

  3. Ahh I hope you like Side Effects May Vary. I gave it one star in the end because it REALLY didn’t work for me at all, but I feel like some of the reasons why I didn’t like it may have been slightly nitpicky but still they really got on my nerves like akldjfldasjfkljadfjlaksdjf. (I seem to be in that 0% that rated Side Effects May Vary lol)

Maybe One Day is actually a really great book, but I can see where Jenni might not have liked it. (I never noticed that about how she goes into treatment after like two days)

The Truth About Alice sounds so great and I hadn’t heard of it until I saw your description of it because slut-shaming is such a huge issue in society today and I’m really opinionated about it and this book looks like a great portrayal of it.

    Happy reading, Christina! <33

Haha, oh dear. Sometimes things just hit your rage buttons. At least that one’s a little way in the future.

She goes into treatment in eight hours! I read that last night. Otherwise, I’m enjoying it, so it could probably still be a book I like in the end.

Hope The Truth About Alice is awesome for both of us!

  4. Tammy says:

I have Enders to read too. It’s been so long since I’ve read Starters but I remember really liking it so here’s hoping. Great book haul, looking forward to your reviews.

  5. FOXY BOXY PERSEUS! Oh, and YABC stuff. Shiny. But Percy kinda outshines books. I had to watch the video twice because I was paying more attention to him and wondering where he went when he disappeared than the books. Can you tell I’m starting to go through cat withdrawal?

My Last Kiss struck me as weird. She’s dead and what she’s worried about is who she kissed before she died? Really? I think only Hungry beat it out for most ridiculous premise of Macmillan’s Summer 2014 catalog. I still laugh at Hungry every single time just like you consistently laugh at Pram.

Dammit, now I wish I’d requested The Truth About Alice. Kinda. Maybe. I DON’T KNOW.

I got tempted by Foreplay because it was a Vine book a couple of months ago, but I decided not to get it. Why? Because NA burns me, it buuuuuuuuurns me! If you like it, I might look for a copy. Maybe.

Oh yeah, heads up: Ask Again Later uses the r-word. It’s an okay book but good God, I STILL WANT TO CASTRATE THE LOVE INTEREST AND USE HIS BALLS AS DECORATIONS FOR MY CAR. Antonio Banderas would probably reject the balls of such a horrid creature, though. (If you’re curious, I gave it 2.5 stars.)

    Enjoy all the books, Christina!

    • Christina Franke says:

Percy does outshine the books and me. I know it’s true. He’s a cat, so it’s kind of an unfair competition.

My Last Kiss does sound weird, but weird in a way where I simply must know, unlike Hungry, which I am okay with not knowing about.

Hmmmmm. It sounds like it could be up your alley, but I have accepted I will never know what is an Ashleigh book.

Haha, we’ll see. I hope I like it, since I already DNFed one of the YABC books.

*sighs* Well, I don’t love that, but it’s not an automatic book killer. It depends on the circumstances and setting and how I feel anyway. I did rate down a bit for that in Avalon, largely because in a futuristic setting there was really no excuse for it. In a contemporary, I might be able to deal, but I’ll have to see. If you gave it 2.5, I’ll probably like it quite a bit. Haha.

  6. Yeah, I grabbed My Last Kiss and The Truth About Alice, too. I was extremely unsure about that, but since Bekka gave it five stars, why not. Like you, I might not love it, but at least I know it doesn’t have unresolved slut-shaming. Hopefully. I also went a bit crazy and grabbed Second Star and…Hungry.

I’ve heard GREAT things about Foreplay. That’s not sarcasm, too. I promise. I couldn’t really get into Uninvited, though.

You guys are scaring me with Red Rising. Ellis just DM’d me that it’s boring her to tears. I am very upset. Giselle says the entire world is like a game of strategy, though, which DOES interest me.

Ask Again Later sounds like Pivot Point with DATES. I am excited. But the main character’s name is, like, Heart.

The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf sounds SO GOOD. Requesting from Candlewick ASAP.

I also have Second Star, which I was on the fence about, but RETELLING. I just think the way authors take something and remake it is fascinating, but sometimes it bites me in the ass.

Supposedly Uninvited is good too, though you are struggling so idk, but I don’t think I’ll ever try anything by Sophie Jordan that isn’t contemporary, because Firelight was SO bad. When she made out with the love interest, her dragon side would start to rise and she would partially shift. Like, her mouth would change a bit into dragon mouth and the dude didn’t notice and like what the fuck is that? no no no.

Bahahaha, why didn’t Ellis tell ME this? I am about to go yell at her. Haha. It bored me to headache. It’s sort of like Ender’s Game if the protagonist were Paul Atreides from Dune.

I quite liked Maybe One Day but I could not get into Panic at all. I have to give it another chance soon but that book, bored me so much I had to move on 🙁

bahahaha I’m so glad to be a part of the black sheep Red Rising group with you. I do believe Ellis will be joining us soon.
Yay Lost Lake! Hope you enjoy that one. Not my favorite SAA but was still fully of super cute stuff.
