Cover Snark (74): The One That Has Me Thinking About Getting Darcy Naked

Welcome to Cover Snark, where the people are snarky and the covers quiver in fear. Since I don’t write many snarky book reviews here on A Reader of Fictions, Cover Snark is my outlet. If you click on the title of the book, where possible, I’ve linked to Goodreads. Clicking on the cover itself will show you the cover in a larger size, in most cases. Feel free to love covers I hate and vice versa. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Shiny and New:

1. Shadow Play (Pantomime #2) – Laura Lam
Shadow Play (Pantomime #2) - Laura Lam
Thoughts: Oooh, I like this one, except that the facial tattoos are giving me flashbacks to House of Night. Ahhhhh!

2. The Fault in Our Stars – John Green
The Fault in Our Stars - John Green
Thoughts: This Australian Exclusive Edition is gorgeous, but this is not how one reveals covers, dammit. I looked and couldn’t find an actual cover image. GRRRR.

3. Fragile Destiny (The Aether Chronicles #3) – Suzanne Lazear
Fragile Destiny - Suzanne Lazear
Thoughts: Another model who has learned about facial expressions from K. Stew. Said woodenly with intense frown:”It’s my birthday. Thanks for the tiny hat and whatever this is. Kiss me.”

4. Her Perfect Mate (X-Ops #1) – Paige Tyler
Her Perfect Mate - Paige Tyler
Thoughts: Now, I know the word “mate” is supposed to be like sexy and wild or destined or some bullshit. For me, the connotation goes straight to nature programs on the Discovery Channel. Entertaining, sure, but not sexy. Much like that dude isn’t bringing the sexy.

5. The One (The Selection #3) – Kiera Cass
The One (The Selection #3) - Kiera Cass
Thoughts: I like to think of myself as fairly hard-hearted and judgmental, but, dammit, I love these. It’s true. I confess. This dress may even be my favorite one, even though it’s a wedding dress. There you have it. My name is Christina and I am a pretty dress cover junkie. I’m undergoing treatment, but it has thus far been ineffective. A cure, if one is ever invented, may be my only hope.

6. The Selection Stories: The Prince and the Guard (The Selection #0.5, 2.5) – Kiera Cass
The Selection Stories The Prince and the Guard - Kiera Cass
Thoughts: Now THIS right here is a waste of a pretty dress cover. I mean, she’s OBVIOUSLY wearing one, but we get a closeup of her back and face instead? No thanks. Moooooving on.

7. A Risk Worth Taking – Heather Hildenbrand
A Risk Worth Taking - Heather Hildenbrand
Thoughts: Is walking on the train tracks really SO pleasurable that it’s worth the risk. Okay, then, darling. If you insist. And, no, I’m SURE that sound wasn’t a train whistle. Keep going. Here, borrow my iPod, so your walking can be more whimsical. Bye, dearie!

8. Placeholder cover for City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments #6) – Cassandra Clare
City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments #6) - Cassandra Clare
Thoughts: Saw people all abuzz on Twitter only to discover the reveal was for A PLACEHOLDER. Guys, this is not a real cover. How nice the placeholder doesn’t translate into the awesomeness of the final book, nor does it mean the release date has changed. CHILL. As far as “Who Will Survive?”, I’m guessing it’s unrealistic to hope the book ends with everyone dying of the plague except for Alec and Magnus, who shall romp the world having gay sex and being fabulous…?

9. Flame (Sky Chasers #3) – Amy Kathleen Ryan
Flame by Amy Kathleen Ryan
Thoughts: Do I spy a THIRD redesign for this series? Oy. Actually, based on the title font, this may actually be intended to match the prior two books. Only it doesn’t. Well, that’s not good. The common theme is running. Yuck. Running. *eats a cookie in protest*

10. The Secret Diamond Sisters (The Secret Diamond Sisters #1) – Michelle Madow
The Secret Diamond Sisters - Michelle Madow
Thoughts: Hmmm, well, I like the concept a lot. But it bothers me that the shapes are triangles and not diamonds. Also, her skin seems to go WAY too far over to the right. She’s got a seriously thick neck, guys.

11. What’s Left of Me – Amanda Maxlyn
What's Left of Me - Amanda Maxlyn
Thoughts: *cough* This title is taken. *cough* Otherwise, I do enjoy the font treatment and the fact that the list of words is actually readable, but I’m not a fan of how grainy the photo is.

12. The Only Thing Worse Than Witches – Lauren Magaziner
The Only Thing Worse Than Witches - Lauren Magaziner
Thoughts: That’s pretty cute, if not my preferred art style. I love how she’s making a potion with newt’s eyes or something and totally not bothered, but he’s cowering. Girls are badasses. Except I would totally be cowering. Ignore that, though. That girl is a badass anyway.

13. Ignite (Explosive #1) – Tessa Teevan
Ignite - Tessa Teevan
Thoughts: Seriously, I understand why NA novels have kissy white people and nudity, but what is with putting the title on the book more than once? It’s such a random trend. Is it meant to imply the novel is more repetitive than most?

14. Be With Me (Wait for You #2) – J. Lynn
Be With Me - J. Lynn
Thoughts: The passion, it freezes. Also, STAHP. I will never not say how annoying the pointlessness of this pseudonym is.

15. Claudette in the Shadows – M.J. Hearle
Claudette in the Shadows - M.J. Hearle
Thoughts: The author apparently came up with the concept for this cover, which is pretty sweet. I feel like it would make a neat animated film.

16. Sunstone (Elemental Wars #2) – Freya Robertson
Sunstone - Freya Robertson
Thoughts: This is very Lord of the Rings.

17. Let Me Off at the Top!: My Classy Life & Other Musings – Ron Burgandy
Let Me Off at the Top! My Classy Life and Other Musings - Ron Burgandy
Thoughts: Book: I wanna say something. I’m gonna put it out there. If you like it, you can it; if you don’t, send it right back. I want to be on your bookshelf. Me: *sends it right back*

18. My Faire Lady – Laura Wettersten
My Faire Lady - Laura Wettersten
Thoughts: Love the title. Love love love. Surely there are cooler Ren Faire costumes than that though. And everyone knows THE refreshment at those things is a turkey leg.

19. Ruined – Jus Accardo
Ruined - Jus Accardo
Thoughts: He looks like a serial killer. So he must be the love interest.

20. Defector (Variants #2) – Susanne Winnacker
Defector (Variants #2) - Susanne Winnacker
Thoughts: He sort of looks like Jordan Catalano. And she has two different colored eyes, and a finger nail made of lens flare.

21. Ashes to Ashes (Experiment in Terror #8) – Karina Halle
Ashes to Ashes (Experiment in Terror, #8) - Karina Halle

22. Killer Instinct – S.E. Green
Killer Instinct - S.E. Green
Thoughts: Nothing says murderous like a face and some hair behind some letters. Oooh, scary. *shivers in boots*

23. Undressing Mr. Darcy – Karen Doornebos
Undressing Mr. Darcy - Karen Doornebos
Thoughts: I volunteer for this mission and also would like that dress. However, that tagline is SO dumb. Like, yes, Darcy totally wore briefs. *rolls eyes*

24. Destructive Choices (The Destructive Series #2) – L.U. Ann
Destructive Choices - L.U. Ann
Thoughts: Tagline, I am puzzled. If our choices don’t define us, what does? Aren’t our choices OURS? *tilts head*

25. Soul Possessed (The Life After #2) – Katlyn Duncan
Soul Possessed (The Life After #2) - Katlyn Duncan
Thoughts: Combine Carrier of the Mark with imitation of Cinna’s design.

26. RecruitZ – Karice Bolton
RecruitZ - Karice Bolton
Thoughts: So many women in full body leather. Probably a good call against zombies. Is this about zombies? It looks like a zombie book. Also, I’m not sure if it’s Recruit Z, like a nickname, or a slangy plural, as in new recruitz with mad skillz.

27. Seven Day Fiancé – Rachel Harris
Seven Day Fiancé - Rachel Harris
Thoughts: Dear people who write romance novel taglines, a bad boy falling in love with a good girl over the course of a week is not a unique plot line. Be more specific. You have just described roughly half of romance novels.

28. Raging Star (Dust Lands #3) – Moira Young
Raging Star
Thoughts: Writing three books called Dust Lands in three different series was sure a bold move. *grumps at the size of the series title* The actual title is basically an afterthought. Also, the dude’s pose. LOL.

29. Maybe One Day – Melissa Kantor
Maybe One Day - Melissa Kantor
Thoughts: Awwww, this tagline gets me write in the feels. Nice work. In case you can’t read it, it says “In the face of tragedy, friendship is everything.” Also, I like their hats. Cute!

30. The Strange Maid (The United States of Asgard #2) – Tessa Gratton
The Strange Maid (The United States of Asgard #2) - Tessa Gratton
Thoughts: Well, it’s better than the first book’s cover, but that’s a loooow bar.

31. The Young World – Chris Weitz
The Young World - Chris Weitz
Thoughts: Generally, I like font-based covers, but something is wrong here and I think it’s the font.

32. Echopraxia – Peter Watts
Echopraxia - Peter Watts
Thoughts: Space is pretty pretty. And that dude’s just chillin’ out, maxin’, relaxin’ all cool in his shiny purple and silver space suit.

33. Artemis Awakening – Jane Lindskold
Artemis Awakening - Jane Lindskold
Thoughts: PUMA IN SPACE. “Puma Man, he flies like a moron…”

34. My Real Children – Jo Walton
My Real Children - Jo Walton
Thoughts: Oooh, alternate realities. Love this, particularly the dress.

35. A Barricade in Hell – Jaime Lee Moyer
A Barricade in Hell - Jamie Lee Moyer
Thoughts: That outfit is awesome. Also, everything looks so plush. Beautifulllll.

36. A Plunder of Souls (Thieftaker Chronicles #3) – D.B. Jackson
A Plunder of Souls - D. B. Jackson
Thoughts: This makes me think of Sleepy Hollow so much.

37. All Those Vanished Engines – Paul Park
All Those Vanished Engines - Paul Park
Thoughts: Nice Pipes. I see what they’re going for with the vanishing text, but it sort of looks like the title starts with Ali.

38. The Dark Between the Stars – (The Saga of Shadows #1) – Kevin J. Anderson
The Dark Between the Stars (The Saga of Shadows #1) - Kevin J. Anderson
Thoughts: Those space ships look like little green bugs. This is an awfully adorable and bright sci fi cover for something called The DARK Between the Stars.

39. Unwept – (The Nightbirds #1) – Tracy Hickman & Laura Hickman
Unwept (The Nightbirds #1) - Tracy Hickman & Laura Hickman
Thoughts: While this is quite lovely, I am now horrified at the thought of moths landing on me while I sleep. Thanks, cover.

40. Shades of Pink: A Romance Anthology – Various Authors
Empty Bed
Thoughts: The pink on the sheets causes flashes to nightly accidents. Sometimes being a woman is terrible. However, it also nicely recalls Breast Cancer Awareness, so mission successful.

41. Friedrich the Snowman – Lewis Shiner
Friedrich the Snowman - Lewis Shiner
Thoughts: Wow, those apple-cheeked chubby children are brutal. Look at them skipping and taunting poor Friedrich as he melts.

42. The Eighth-Grade History Class Visits the Hebrew Home for the Aging – Harry Turtledove
The Eighth-Grade History Class Visits the Hebrew Home for the Aging - Harry Turtledove
Thoughts: Weirdest. Title. Ever.

43. Lumière (The Illumination Paradox #1) – Jacqueline E. Garlick
Lumière by Jacqueline Garlick
Thoughts: Bahaha, the heroine’s name is Eyelet. Oh, Lumière, we must do something!

44. Games Creatures Play – Charlaine Harris & Toni L. P. Kelner, eds.
Games Creatures Play - Charlaine Harris & Toni L. P. Kelner
Thoughts: This cover looks like it should be on a Discworld novel. That makes me happy.

45. Knight of Wands (Devices of War Trilogy #2) – S.M. Blooding
Knight of Wands (Devices of War Trilogy #2) - S.M. Blooding
Thoughts: This dude has learned to firebend from his shoulders. Boss.

46. Sunrise (Ashfall #3) – Mike Mullin
Sunrise - Mike Mullin
Thoughts: WHY IS THE ORIENTATION DIFFERENT ON THIS ONE? Is it because the world is metaphorically right again? That sounds plausible. Not a fan of the hairy arm or all the beige.

47. California – Edan Lepucki
California - Edan Lepucki
Thoughts: This reminds me of the America Pacifa cover, which shows an upside-down waterfall. And I think they’re both dystopian/post apocalyptic too. It’s interesting that there’s a trend of flipping the world for those covers.

Cover Battles:

1. Starglass (Starglass #1) – Phoebe North

Starglass - Phoebe North

Hardback vs. Paperback: This falls into one of those rare cover redesigns I approve of, as it’s markedly better than the original. What really makes this awesome, though, is that the redesign matches the original cover style well enough I missed that there had been a redesign, thus not including this one last week. My b. I’m bad at scrolling. It’s my secret shame. Was, anyway.

2. Isaura (Aberrant #3) – Ruth Silver

Isaura - Ruth Silver
Isaura - Ruth Silver paperback

ebook vs. Alternate Paperback: Ruth Silver publishes her series with two covers at once, aiming to appeal to people who like covers with models and people who do not. In theory, I love this idea, but I’m not a fan of the execution of either set. Womp womp.

3. Trouble – Non Pratt

Trouble - Non Pratt US
Trouble - Non Pratt UK

US vs. UK: These two were released at the same time for a cover comparison! Both of these are adorable, even if they creep me out because of the subject matter. I prefer the US cover, because no sperm, even if I recognize how clever and daring the UK one is.

4. Maid of Secrets (Maids of Honor #1) – Jennifer McGowan

Maid of Secrets
Maid of Secrets (Maids of Honor #1) - Jennifer McGowan

US Hardback vs. US Paperback: Not a total betty but a vast improvement.

5. Night of Cake & Puppets (Daughter of Smoke && Bone) – Laini Taylor

Night of Cake & Puppets - Laini Taylor US
Night of Cake & Puppets - Laini Taylor UK

US vs. UK: I WANT TO EAT THIS BOOK TITLE. The gilded cage cover isn’t the most original thing in the world, but these are still badass for novella covers. Slight preference for the UK cover, as the US typography looks odd on that background.

6. Infinite Sky – C. J. Flood

Infinite Sky - C.J. Flood UK
Infinite Sky - C.J. Flood UK PB
Infinite Sky - C.J. Flood

UK Hardback vs. UK Paperback vs. US: UK hardcover by a long shot. I love the background of the US cover, but the girl hugging herself just looks out of place there. The UK paperback bores me.

NUMBER. The Archived (The Archived #1) – Victoria Schwab

The Archived - Victoria Schwab
The Archived paperback

Hardback vs. Paperback: It appears that the only change is the addition of a tagline, which would normally be terrible, but this one is punny and awesome.

WTF of the Week:

WTF of the Week began as a special category for one cover I saw, but was so popular it became a recurring feature. Here, I highlight covers, both new and old, that I’ve found, which, upon viewing, made me either snort or say something along the lines of “Dear God, what is that thing?” If you would like to be part of the fun and have spotted a truly hilarious or horrifying cover, submit it and your snark to cynicalsapphire at gmail dot com and you might be included, though I will filter through submissions and limit the number of entries per week.

1. A Little Too Much (A Little Too Far #2) – Lisa Desrochers
A Little Too Much - Lisa Desrochers
Thoughts: A little too much ass on this cover. It cracks me up that William Morrow put their stamp on this like they’re proud, when they kept the look of the first, which is one of the worst NA covers imo.

2. Pictures Lies & Promises – Tiffany Carmouche
Pictures Lies & Promises - Tiffany Carmouche
Thoughts: Orca whale walks on water and people canoodle in the sky while a father and daughter look on. Totally legit.

3. When Love Takes Over (Provincetown #1) – Jacob Z. Flores
When Love Takes Over - Jacob Z. Flores
Thoughts: What I enjoy about this cover is its directness. If you follow their gazes, they are both staring directly at the other guy’s tiny swimsuit. No dissembling. No pants. Lots of sex wax.

4. Ravished by the Triceratops – Christie Sims
Ravished by the Triceratops
Thoughts: In case you missed the media blast this week, dinosaur porn is a thing. Triceratops is one horny dino.

Outstanding Cover of the Week:

Trouble by Non Pratt

The Outstanding Cover of the Week is chosen by a Cover Snark reader. They are free to pick any of the week’s covers, whether they’re to my personal tastes or not. If you’d like to choose the cover for a week, either email or tweet me. You will need to be available Wednesday evening to consult.

Trouble - Non Pratt US

Today, Welcome Lenore Appelhans, author of The Memory of After and the blog Presenting Lenore, who has selected Trouble by Non Pratt. Here’s why:

“I love the paperback cover of STARGLASS (so pretty!), but I think both the UK and US covers for Non Pratt’s TROUBLE are brilliant. The UK cover is very cheeky and in your face, though, and I prefer the more subtle US cover. At first glance, the design appears very “classic” (as in, could be a 1960s paperback). Looking closer, I’m impressed by how much it says. The artist using black lines for the illustrations of the couple, the stork and the baby while using white space for the tree and the rest of the physical environment tells me that the couple is very focused on the problem, to the exclusion of everything else. It’s a nice touch that the baby is getting caught on the T of the title type. What might that mean for the story? Fascinating!”

Ravished by the Triceratops???? I wish I could unsee it.

My favourites are the Australian cover for The Fault in Our Stars and The One (let’s hope America marries Maxon).

I am afraid that unseeing it is impossible. My apologies. My brain can’t help but try to figure out how that would even work, but thankfully it’s not getting far.

Also, I can’t imagine she won’t end up with Maxon. If it happens any other way, I will eat my bonnet.

  2. -Shadowplay: pretty!
-The fault in our stars: I love it.
    -Her perfect mate: hahahahaha.
    -The one: also pretty.
-The only thing worse than witches: it’s awesome. I really like covers with art 😀
    -Sunstone: like it.
-My real children: I like it, it’s different 🙂
    -Unwept: oh, that is pretty!
-Lumiere: I don’t know why, but I love it <3
-Sunrise: yes, I was surprised by the change.
-Starglass: I have the old version, but that is a great re-design.
-Maid of secrets: I like the new one. The face on the first one.. neh.
-Night of cake and puppets: LOVE IT.
-Ravished by the Triceratops: bhahaha, I don't even know what to say.

5- So I haven’t read these but I am temped to buy them for their covers alone. Love them.

8- Hasn’t that been the “placeholder” for… ever? I saw it (or at least something VERY similar) 2 years ago.

14- Is it just me, or does he look kinda girly? Or like Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. bahaha

21- OY, the kiddo. I bet that you has WIGGIN OUT. You should read it.

29- I like how the title words are in different colors.

40- So, yes. The PERIOD for the eye. bahgha get it?

47- I did a head tilt. That cover is weird.

Cover battle #2- She looks like a bad actress, trying for dramatic. or about to fake faint. I don’t like it.

    WTF of the Week

1- So I participated in this cover reveal and almost didn’t post it. That is a LITTLE TOO MUCH skin and nakedness for my liking.

2- *snorts* They are lovin the view, that’s for sure.

    4. All I can say is WTF is that?!

    • Christina Franke says:

5- *coughs* I would recommend the library.

8- I’m guessing it’s just that all the placeholders look sort of the same.

      14. HAHAHAH.

      21. I am planning to try it someday.

      40. Flashback to mornings where you wake up look down and say “fuuuuuck mother nature”

      47. Nor do I. Her dress also doesn’t really fit her.

  5. Meg says:

    7. Is it weird that I look at this and all I can think about is how bad I want her boots?

    8. You have correctly identified the only acceptable ending to TMI

    26. This outfit is actually a weapon in disguise. When the zombies come, she can beat them to death with her boobs (which will inevitably pop out if she moves)

    44. I got really sad that this wasn’t a new Discworld until I realized Seanan McGuire and Brandon Sanderson contributed.

CB 5. I love all of Laini Taylor’s covers, US, UK, you name it, but more then the covers, I love this title. Cake AND puppets? What a magical night this is sure to be.

      7. Nope. Boots are important.

      8. Right? I’m a genius of plotting.

      26. Awkwaaaaard.

      44. Ooooh. But I’m still not a big fan of anthologies. Choices.

CB5: This date sounds like win. Though honestly I could do without the puppets. Cake is enough.

  6. Jenn says:

As always, Cover Snark was fantastic this week (and not just because of the Fresh Prince reference). I fully support your vision for City of Heavenly Fire. I will be very upset if either Alec or Magnus die. They are two of her most popular characters. I’m not sure if that makes them more vulnerable or less vulnerable. There are some really good looking books in this batch: Undressing Mr. Darcy, Maybe One Day, Echopraxia, My Real Children, and California. They made Pictures Lies & Promises look all the more WTF.

    • Christina Franke says:

Hahaha, I’m always SO glad when someone picks up on my random references. Score!

You’re the second one to approve of my vision. Clearly, I should be an author. There are a bunch of awesome ones this week!

  7. KT Grant says:

    Horny dino lurve. How sweet.

  8. Kayla Beck says:

    1. I shocked myself because as the picture loaded, I thought to myself, “Strange Chemistry cover”. And it is! Behold my superpower! Or maybe they’re easily identifiable? If so, I’ve never noticed. (No, I don’t mean the little black “Strange Chemistry” thing on the front, either.)

    3. *dies laughing* I see it more as, “Here is your fucking snow globe back, okay? Now quit blowing up my phone, jerk!”

    5. *sigh* I’m guilty of it, too. I bitch about white girls in pretty dresses on covers, but they’re like crack cocaine! Yes, Christina, we have an addiction, but admitting it is the first step. Now I need to go to David’s Bridal to find one similar to this so I can wear it to the grocery store.

    8. Will this series go away once everything is said and done? Please say yes.

    9. May I have a cookie? *bats eyelashes*

    10. Is this the writer of the indie books with the masks? I’m too lazy to go look. Hell, I’m supposed to be cutting out bookmarks. *continues on with procrastinating*

    12. Cute kids in Greece, maybe?!

    15. Take heed of this, Pixar! You will win Academy Awards!

    16. Bob, I love epic fantasy. I’m going to have to look into that series!

    18. Yep, that chick is just there for summer work, I’m guessing. She needs brocade and fowl appendages.

    20. *snores*

    22. She missed her spot on The 100 cover.

    24. I want her to teach a class on the smokey eye.

    27. She has hair like me! *dances around*

    28. He was a Tommy Hilfiger model before the world ended.

    31. *scratches head*

    32. THIS is fucking badass. I’m going to get this book just so I can hug it.

    33. It looks like it has one of those suction cup thingies on the front of its eye. HELP THE POOR KITTY AND STOP POLLUTING!

    35. This is obviously aimed at Whovians, and the Doctor will be arriving at any moment.

    39. I freakin’ love Tracy Hickman, so I will ignore the moths and read this book one of the days. Maybe I should beg someone for a review copy. *looks around*

    41. I’m hoping that he eats the children.

    42. Five dollars says this book is going to try to make you cry.

    45. I think I may have a crush on him, even with the terrible tattoos. Asian men… *le sigh*

    46. Is that lettuce?

CB1. I don’t mind it, but I did like the purple.

CB4. I love the new cover. The first one is very campy.

CB5. Hehe, the title is adorable, but the UK cover wins.

      1. You’re very smart. The fact that it says Strange Chemistry on it is not a clue at all. Perhaps because it looks like Pantomime?

      3. Bahaha. Stop blowing up my phones phones!

      5. If only we lived in the same city, I would be with you in this mission.

      8. I sincerely hope that the three more series she has planned do not come to fruition.

      9. You’re the one who bakes. These are just store-bought.

      10. Pretty sure.

      19. But he’s totally making a kissy face. Just not to anyone else.

      28. I would read that book. Especially if Libba Bray wrote it.

      32. The only reason I didn’t add this one is that I don’t understand the title, and fear it’s too smart for me.

      39. Should I have heard of Tracy Hickman?

      41. Me too. I love that you wish for that even though you have a children.

      42. It’s just a short story, I think, but I suspect so. Holocaust survivor is my guess.

      CB7: Loooooooooooool.

You are welcome. Check back next week for more scarring images!

      • Kayla Beck says:

        1. If I said why it was so amazing that I was able to pick it out, people would think terrible things about me.

        5. If we ever go to the same conference, we have to wear huge ballgowns one day. You know, like book cover cosplay. (P.S. I’ll be at ALA in June. Let’s DO THIS.)

        9. I hate cooking so much now. My family expects to eat daily – MY COOKING – even though work is awful, and I’m stuck in a self-hate/depression spiral. Ugh, dependents…

        28. *nods thoughtfully*

        32. I love feeling dumb while reading science fiction. Think of it like this – if it’s not plausible, I’ll still be too stupid to notice!

        39. He wrote lots of books about dragons. I fucking loved dragons as a tween.

        41. She would hope that, too. She’s so twisted and disturbed that you might even like her. I think she has her second grade teacher convinced that she’s a serial killer in the making. She’s just quirky and imaginative – and was born on Stephen King’s birthday.

THIS is for you since you shared the WTF that scarred me.

        • Christina Franke says:

          1. Well, that sort of comment just makes me curious.

          5. Sorry, I’m doing BEA again. I just don’t feel like ALA is as friendly. X_X But I’ll be doing ALA in 2017. HOLLA. Atlanta, bitches!

          9. Gross. Of course, I eat hot pockets far more often than any human should, so…

          32. I do not enjoy it at all. Haha, though I do see the logic in that.

          39. Ohhhh, I was all about Anne McCaffrey for a while.

            9. I only eat those things deep-fried, as any good Southerner should. Also, the family fended for themselves last night, thank Bob, and I had Blue Bell Blueberry Cheesecake ice cream. I don’t even care that my pants are tight.

            39. We had to discard some of the Acorna books this week, and it broke my heart! I loved that series.

            41. Yeah, when the teacher had the class state and illustrate what they can do when they were angry, Bug drew a bunch of bloody corpses and put “I Can Cil” on it. *sigh* Thankfully, the teacher knew that I’ve been having problems with my grandmother letting Bug watch Discovery ID with her. But still…

            • Christina Franke says:

ALA was actually fine when I went, but I’ve seen a particular librarian blogger talking about how much she doesn’t think bloggers should be allowed to go that it’s really turned me off.

Deep-fried hot pockets? *tilts head* Ew. Blueberry.

Awwwww, I was super into that too. UNICORN (girl)

Bahahaha, omg. That’s intense. Kids in movies do that and do turn out to be serial killers.

              • Kayla Beck says:

I think it’s the ARC snatching that bothers the librarians. (Not me because with ARCs comes great responsibilities.) Everyone should go and hug!

Once you’ve tried a deep-fried hot pocket, you’ll never go back. I used to cook them during my short stint as a gas station fry cook. (Best. Job. Ever.)

Yep, the generation after me was wanting letters to Hogwarts, and I was wanting a horn to sprout out of my head so I could fly spaceships.

As long as she’s creative, it’s whatever. I tell her that she should use artistic outlets for her feelings so she doesn’t make bad decisions in other places, like school.

And I get that. I do. But librarians ARC-grab just as much. If librarians don’t want bloggers there, they should be bitching to the conference planners, not to the bloggers.

O_o I would not expect that to be the best job ever.

                  I WANT THE HOGWARTS LETTER.

True. Better to draw dead bodies than actually make dead bodies.

                • Kayla Beck says:

That is very true, but that just shows us that the bitchers are probably giant twats that just want to moan to the world. I can say that because I’m a giant twat bitcher that loves to moan, too.

It suited my personality. I really enjoyed the cooking aspect of it, and I have so many awesome stories from that time. I had a guy basically attempt to sexually assault me in the store, and when I punched him in the face and knocked him over, the surveillance video was a hit with the manager and boss instead of getting me fired. I think it had a lot to do with him being a foot and a half taller than me. But still, I felt like a fry cook superhero, and asshats like that should be punched in the face at All The Jobs.

I want to be given tickets to the Universal Studios Hogwarts for my 3x11th birthday. It would complete my life. And I want a unicorn horn for my next birthday. Or a spaceship. Preferably a TARDIS.

  12. 1. I didn’t even think about House of Night while looking at the cover! Huh. Well, I’ll just torch every House of Night book in existence and let the tattoos create a new legacy. Sounds easy.

    2. *donkey kicks on principle* They are pretty nice, though. I hope they’re shiny.

    3. I’m imagining this whole sad backstory for the model. Her boyfriend is forcing her to keep doing cover shoots like this even though she already has another steady job she likes a lot more and he wouldn’t even let her have her coffee that morning. The nerve! She got all angry-faced thinking about it, but the photographer thought it was perfect and used it for the cover. Now she can remember that day and cry a little inside every time she sees this cover.

    5. That IS really pretty. I’d totally wear it if I had somewhere to wear it. However, this is what I read in the hint of a smirk on her face: “…I totally passed gas and no one knows it because this dress is so big.” (I’m highly imaginative this morning because I was trying to compose the Golden Balls Saga into a ballad for an assignment.)

    7. One of her siblings threw her favorite penny onto the tracks when a train went by and she’s trying to find it. She’s got a lot of ground to cover. She loves that penny so much that it’s worth the risk.

    8. Pfft, who cares who survives? I care who DIES. Especially if one of the casualties is Cassandra Clare’s career, which appears to be dying anyway.

    9. I don’t think it was intended to match. If it was, there would be a person in the letters and it would be bafflingly girly. They’re just faily at continuity with covers the same way this pub is with the Tempest books.

    10. *smashes cover* NO. GTFO, DIAMOND GIRL. YOUR GAUDINESS IS A DISGRACE TO LAS VEGAS. When you’re that gaudy, there’s no saving you. Also, your design is icky.

    14. The only–ONLY–reason I can think of for the ridiculous penname shenanigans is that they want to keep the NA/adult stuff away from the YA readers, but they’re forever going to be dumbasses and never realize that putting both names on the book and making the YA name the larger one is never going to do that. I want to be a fly on the wall of their offices just so I can figure out what the hell they’re thinking.

    21. I need to read Come Alive already so I can be ready when this comes out! But Come Alive is so looooong and I have so many other books to read. D: But yeah, that kid is really creepy. I thought it was theirs for a second, but no.

    28. …So, I obviously need to read Blood Red Road soon and love it because Rebel Heart and Raging Star sound like my kind of crack, yes ma’am. I wish publishers would get over making the series title the main attraction.

    30. …Naaah, this one is worse. At least his entire upper face isn’t trees.

    42. *throws cover in a trunk because it scares me too much*

    1. I definitely like this one a lot better. So pretty. <3 I'm really surprised they redesigned it so soon after release, though.

    35. I love the blue tones. Didn’t know that Delila’s Shadow had a second book, though?
    37. I read that as “A Hose Vanished Gin” at first xD
    39. I’ve seen that image somewhere before…
Oh, I love the Starglass redesign! The model looked kind of odd in the original.
It took me a while to get what was going on in Trouble’s UK cover .-.

I’m at work and I’m bored and I need something FUN so thank you for keeping me from falling asleep.

    1. These covers are pretty cool! I also liked the Pantomime one.

    2. WHY ARE THESE SO PRETTY? There is also the silver one and it makes me want to buy them because *drools*.

    5. These books are so terrible but the covers are very pretty. I think I like this one most of all. I’ll also be reading this book when it comes out, because apparently this series is like reality TV. Awful, but addicting.

    6. THIS, on the other hand, I won’t be reading. I hate these characters too much.

    8. Magnus and Alec are the only good thing about this series, it is known. I regret buying all of these in hardcover.

    10. This is interesting, but I don’t like the pink sticker in the middle. Makes it look cheap.

    12. Middle Grade is teaching girls to be kick-ass, which I love.

    15. I actually quite like this.

    19. *snorts* He probably is.

    21. That kid is seriously creepy. She looks like Renesmee.

    23. The blurry thing is distracting me. But I love the title.

    29. I like it, but I prefer the other cover. That was adorable.

    34. Not a fan of the color changing font, but the concept! Yay. I want to read this.

    46. Good font treatment WOOO. I don’t really like the giant hands on any of these covers though.

    47. I really, really like this one. It’s so simple, but it works.

CB 1. The first is a bit too disco for my taste, so redesign ftw. The space is also much prettier.

    3. The colors of the first one are so Catcher in the Rye. Hmm. I quite like both though.

    4. Same, I don’t like the font on that first cover. It just doesn’t match. It would have been better had the background been dark. Besides this, I adore these titles so much!

    6. This is such a pretty cover, why did they even change it? Sigh.

    Okay, back to work.

I don’t usually comment on these posts, hilarious though they are, because your comments usually seem to do the covers plenty of justice. But for this, it seemed necessary. #33- puma man! Yes, just yes! This seriously cracked me up! MST3K lives on!!!
