Check Out the New Digs

If you’ve been a follower of A Reader of Fictions for a while now, you’re probably looking around and wondering what the heck this classy blog is you’ve come to accidentally. What happened to the ocean of green? Where are the friendly dandelions that make you fear that you might be about to embark on a cancer book?

Gone. For good. *breathes deeply* I only hope I’m ready for this. Anyway, whether ready or not, ‘TIS DONE.

where am i
Please do not ask me how the move went. Basically, it was not pretty. I do not like change and I cry when I’m frustrated. However, everyone tells me that I will be so glad I moved. Let’s hope!

You are not lost; you’re just in a nicer neighborhood now!

At some point, there will be a giveaway, but I need to get organized first, so maybe you should follow and enjoy some content while you wait?

wink

In the meantime, LET’S PARTY!

I loathe change. But this is a nice change! Bravo!

  2. Gillian says:

WOOHOOOO! GIF PARTY! CONGRATS ON THE MOVE, EVEN IT WAS TEARFUL AND FRUSTRATING! YOU BLOG PRETTY TODAY!

*tosses confetti* *blows horn* *does a jig*

    • Christina Franke says:

Thanks, Gillian. This about killed me, and without Steph it would not have happened. Jamie, too. Oh man. It takes a village.

  3. Expy says:

Hot diggity! The new look is great! I love how simple it is. Minimalism FTW!

  4. Morgan says:

That Heath Ledger gif made my life. *melts into a puddle*

Also, love the new design! Font, colors, layout… it’s all so pretty 🙂

  5. Lesley says:

Ew, I hate change. However, this I approve of. It looks really nice. Just need to figure out how to follow it now (I’m one of those people who still thinks the GFC thing on Blogger is pretty awesome) I also want to keep typing and typing and typing random things because this font is really pretty.

    • Christina Franke says:

Oh, yeah, I thought about trying to migrate that, but everything was such a headache. There’s always email, I guess. I use Feedly, and I like it. Way better than Bloglovin’ if you do decide to move.

      • Lesley says:

I’ll have to check out Feedly. I’ve been meaning to try out something new anyway, since not all the blogs I like have GFC anyway. It’s just that I’m incredibly lazy. This whole move sounds like it’s been such a headache for you, though – just remember that it will probably get better!

  6. Hannah says:

I didn’t see the old digs, but liking the new ones.
I got so scared when I moved from blogger to wordpress. Took me like 2 weeks and I refused to make it official until everything was PERFECT!

    • Christina Franke says:

Ha, the old digs were just a basic theme from Blogger, which I sometimes saw on other blogs. So, yeah, it’s a step up.

I sort of wish I’d done that, but, honestly, I can’t make mine perfect because I have 1300 posts, so the amount I need to catch up was just going to get worse, and I don’t have time to take a break from reviewing. Oh well. People will deal or they won’t.

  7. Obviously, I love this new you. Welcome to WP!

(I know you will like it here, so you can just stop worrying!)

  8. I love this. The design is simple and pretty.

Eventually I’ll move to self hosted but right now I barely have enough money to put food on the table.

Congrats on egoing through with the switch despite your frustrations.

    • Christina Franke says:

I wouldn’t have moved to self-hosted if I didn’t have a wonderful friend with a hosting service who was totally able to help me out. I am very lucky to have him.

  9. I LOVE IT

Ermehgerd, the font in the comment box *____* Come to me, you beauty.

But, uh, you didn’t happen to save a screenshot of the old look, did you? Not that I want to stare at it longingly and stroke the precious green grass or anything but…

    (Seriously, tweet me.)

    • Christina Franke says:

Ha, now you get the sans-serif font as well! Victory. I shall lure you in this way. Oh, Steph took one, because I totally didn’t remember that migrating it would result in that one basically not existing. I’m a bit dumb sometimes.

  10. Judith says:

I don’t like change at all, but I think the change to WP is a good one! I love the new layout and you did a fabulous job moving so far and DON’T WORRY DEAR! You’ll get the hang of it. I promise.

Thanks for trying to talk me down. You caught me in mid-panic, right as the tears began and I was a mess. I do not handle frustration well at all.

Making this post wasn’t so bad, so hopefully new ones will be alright. I just do not understand why it imports them like this if that’s not what it wants. It is TOTALLY possible for the importer to do better.

  11. Shelly says:

The new layout is amazing! Congrats on your move to WordPress and good luck adjusting to all the change! 🙂

    • Christina Franke says:

Thank you, Nori! I’m glad you like it. The first colors were more traditional, but this combines a lot of my favorite colors and it’s quirky and unique, like I like to think I am. Maybe I actually am. Hurrah.

It’s so beautiful! *pets the pretty colors* I’m sorry the transition was such a pain, but it is so very lovely on this end.

    • Christina Franke says:

ME TOO. Well, it’s not so lovely if you look at my review archive or any of the posts but the most recent three, but we just won’t do that. Sound good?

  15. Bonnie says:

I do miss the green but I love the new colors! I’ve heard the transition is a pain but hopefully it does end up being all worth it!

Congrats on the big move! Everything looks great. A+ gifs (especially the Heath Ledger one!)

  17. Pink Vanilla says:

I like the new version of your blog! Even if I must confess that I miss your previous layout. I prefer this one, is more neat and clean, but you know, it takes some time to get used to something new!
    Congrats! xoxo

    • Christina Franke says:

Oh yeah, I mean, for a basic template, I really did like that design and it was very good to me. My main issue was sometimes spotting other blogs with it, which was like BOO HISS NO.

  18. Pink Vanilla says:

Ps: I forgot to say that your animated gifs are the only that don’t slow down my computer! Yay!

  19. Giselle says:

Yay!! It’s a bitch of a change from blogger to WP and annoying to get it all fixed I still haven’t fixed any posts past a couple months, but I think it was worth it. I love the new look! It’s so you!

    • Christina Franke says:

BLERGH. I’m going to be working on this for years basically, because I am anal-retentive and cannot deal with this being so messed up. I think I’ll try to get to all the reviews, but seriously fuck Cover Snark and discussion post formatting. It can chill.

  20. Jenni says:

It’s so pretty! I tried to leave a “the new look is so purdy” comment on your The Burning Sky review earlier but for some reason WP yelled at me and said I had already said what I said but I hadn’t said it so it lied when it said that. Anywho, I freaking love it and don’t fret over the old posts! No one but you really cares anyway 😉

Ummm, yeah, WP does that to me a lot on other blogs, but I don’t want my blog to sass you, except in good, giffy ways.

BUT I CARE! AND I AM THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE UNIVERSE OBVIOUSLY. MY SECRET SHAME IS SO PUBLIC.

  21. Whoa, you are so FANCY. I love the new design! And the fonts! And the colors! This is awesome, congrats. We’re making the move this fall, too, so prepare for teeth-gnashing from me as well. *sigh*

WENDY! I feel like I’m officially official now that you stopped by! *hugs* Oh wow, good luck, and may you handle it better than I did. Oy. I am not made for that sort of pressure.

      • I fear I am not made for it either, which is why I have waited so long. Steph has been assuring me that it’ll be easy and okay, though, but I know she reassured you too, and here you are in tears! @_@ But it must be done, and everyone says it’s worth it in the end. SAY IT’S SO, CHRISTINA. SAY IT’S SO.

Oh man, it was awful. I really don’t cry at books much, but put me in a situation where I don’t know what to do and WATERWORKS FOREVER. It’s so not good for survival. I’ll let you know how I feel down the road, but today was HORRIBLE.

  27. Love your header. Congratulations for finally doing it! Now you will have to tell me how hard it is and what the learning curve is. Your tweets today freaked me out!

    • Christina Franke says:

Thanks! I wanted something simple and pretty.

Yes, and it was that horrible, but hopefully I have the bulk of it figured out and the design tweaks will get done and I’ll edit the shit-ton of posts and everything will be okay.

  28. Jessica R says:

Christina, it looks so gooooood! It sounds like it was a hard day but I think it’s going to pay off in the end because I love the new look! And your fonts! Yay! Great job, really 🙂

    • Christina Franke says:

SUCH a hard day. But hopefully I’ll be really thrilled about it another couple of weeks. Really wish I hadn’t moved in the middle of the ARCiest month, but whatever I will deal and it will be done and all will be well that ends well and dammit it will end well.

  29. Kathy L. says:

Yay!!! Congrats on the move! I’m so excited for it because before I was not able to comment AND NOW I CAN!!!! Wahooooooooooooo! Can’t wait to share my thoughts on Cover Snark!

    • Christina Franke says:

Thanks, Lynn! I wasn’t sure how people would feel about the orange and blue, but I thought it really worked, and I love this dark shade of orange and I love blue and turquoise, and I thought it might look really unique!

  41. Completely understand how change is hard, I’m just the same. I like routine and I like familiarity but I promise you that the change to WP will be one of the best blogging decisions you’ll make 😀

So in love with the new design! The simplicity of it is what makes it awesome!

  42. One of the reasons I’m still on Blogspot is because I’m afraid of the change.. so credits that you took the decision to do it anyway. I think your blog looks great 🙂 Much more professional!

I don’t like change when it comes at the wrong time, but other than that, I’m pretty cool with it. Unless it’s frustrating and tear-inducing… like this sounds like. >.< Anyway, I hope the rest of the move comes along smoothly for you, Christina!
