Cover Reveal Thursday (5)

Time for another collection of covers I noticed during this week. Most should be brand new releases, but sometimes I miss things. There were a lot this week, so get pumped!

Breaking Glass – Lisa Amowitz

 Thoughts: Meh.

Throne of Glass – Sarah J. Maas

Thoughts: When this title first went up on NetGalley, the cover image was on there, but they removed it a couple days later. From what I recall, it was like this, but slightly different. I liked that one better. Oh well. I just don’t think this looks especially well put together. Also, the reveal was so stupid: the only way to see it at first was to Like the Facebook page for a book you probably haven’t read yet. Not. Cool.

Reaper – L. S. Murphy

Thoughts: Look at her arm! Who holds things like that? Nobody does. Ugh.

The Jelly Bean Crisis – Jolene Stockman

Thoughts:  Pretty sure this is a self-pub, but the cover is really nice. The jelly beans look a bit silly, but it works in context. This makes me want to read the book, even though the description is odd.

Closed Hearts – Susan Kaye Quinn

Thoughts: This dovetails nicely with the cover for Open Minds, which I have not read. They sound pretty interesting thought. I also like the tattoo on her face (shocker, I know).

The First Days – Rhiannon Frater

Thoughts: Not wild about the colors or the art, but it definitely gets the zombies across.

Then You Were Gone – Lauren Strasnick

Thoughts: Boring. Although I do like the font and the pink for the author’s name.

Darkwater – Catherine Fisher

Thoughts: I appreciate that they did something different, but blergh. Also, the font for the title makes me feel like my vision is blurry.

The Torn Wing – Kiki Hamilton

Thoughts: This is a little too sugar sweet and cute even for me. Although it is kind of cool how the blur of wing is missing one side, and how the plants look like they’re about to nom the title like they’re the Audrey 2.

Fuse – Julianna Baggott

Thoughts: I was not a big fan of book one’s cover. I actually didn’t figure out what it was until like a month ago…because sometimes I’m dumb. Anyway, I love this one. It’s creepy, but awesome. It also matches Pure nicely.

Prodigy – Marie Lu

Thoughts: I’m not immediately in love with this one, but I do think it’s pretty cool. I like the shade of blue behind the bird, and I also like the bird emblem. Additionally, I’m intrigued by the dark, but not just plain black, background. I hope the book has a matte finish when it’s published.

Divide and Conquer – Carrie Ryan

Thoughts: The cover’s okay. Kind of like all of the other video game-ish covers. Mostly, I am distracted by the fact that there is a series with the first book written by James Dashner and the second by Carrie Ryan. This could be used against me as a form of torture perhaps. Or, maybe it’s awesome. I shouldn’t judge authors off of one series. *tries not to judge*

A Memory of Light – Robert Jordan & Brandon Sanderson

Thoughts:  This fits perfectly with the series’ covers. That said, I don’t love the covers for these books. Epic fantasy often has terrible covers actually. They generally look kind of cheesy. I think I need to set aside five months and read these now that they’re completed.

Cover of the Week: Fuse by Julianna Baggott!

On the cover of “Reaper”, where are the straps on her shoes? What is keeping those shoes on!? Why is she just standing on a pair of heels!?! They’ll just be left behind the moment she moves out of that awkward pose. I almost feel like they were using a set of heels to get her feet and posture just right and then meant to Photoshop the shoes out and forgot. Irked.

OH MY GOD. That is the best. Thank you so much for noticing that. Hahahahahaha.

It kind of looks like she might standing on real shoes. Like they have straps, but they didn’t like them and meant to photoshop in cuter straps. I think I can see the straps in the back a little. Maybe.

No, I definitely see it too. It looks like it was a peep toe shoe; there’s definitely a strap of white under her toes which looks like it should be over them. I also feel like there’s two little silver bits toward the back of each shoe on the outside edge, buckles perhaps?

I’m sure there was a purpose for it. There HAS to be. But whether it was intentional or a mistake, I am SUPER distracted by it and cannot look at anything else.
