My favorite historical period to study is the Victorian era, but I’m also kind of obsessed with WWII and the Cold War.

  2. Helen says:

ancient greece or the renaissance or medieval

My favorite historical period to study is the former Soviet Union. World War II and the siege of Leningrad. The NKVD and the terror of prison camps in Siberia. I commented on your Top 10 reads of 2010. Thanks for the chance to win this book.

I like the Yuan or Ming dynasty in China, the forbidden city at its greatest.

  5. Anita Yancey says:

I really like the old American West and the Civil War.

  6. I like studying pre-soviet Russia because it lets me get my Dostoevsky on. Also, it’s interesting to see the seeds of batshit-craziness that would come into full bloom after the revolution. Example: there was a time when cookbooks could not include the phrase “let the dough rise,” because a censor thought this was a call to revolt. Russia be crazy.

  7. I love reading stories about the Great Depression and the
    history of China.
